Good
luck to the CHS Chorus at their state contest Wednesday
(at Union) ... I can't attend but will have a few photos from their
practice session this morning before they got on the bus. I will
be away from my computer most of the day so will only make slow
progress on news (& emails) from the past few days. -- Ted 9am
Wed. April 9th -- and there are only 21
days left to complete the 2014 grad pages ... so if you are wanting
to submit a favorite photo ... you'd best hurry ... as the last
minute submits will likely be pushed past the initial May 1st release. |
Opt-Out
Clarification -- Please note that the State Required FIELD
TESTING will not begin until MAY 3, 2014. The same opt
out policy and procedure released this morning INCLUDES FIELD TESTING.
You must meet with your student's site administrator by MAY
2nd to complete all required documentation. -- Cara Jones

-- Just in case you had been wondering about opting your student
out of testing ... check back here tomorrow ... as Cara Jones indicated
that (pending school board approval tonight) the new policy would
be available online as soon as possible ... but would have a short
deadline to get paperwork completed before testing begins. -- Ted
Wright 2:40pm Monday -- [OK, just got my first
look at the proposed policy and the district advises against opting
out due to consequences to both the district and the student ...
but is formalizing the process for those that choose to opt-out
anyway]-- Ted 3:30pm April 7th] ... and the
deadline is end of the day Wednesday April 9th. -- The
board approved this Policy

Change:
I received my "Collinsville" printed newspaper today,
a day later than before, and with "Owasso Reporter" on
the masthead. I also received my "Bank of the Lakes" statement
today but it is now labled as "Valley National Bank" with
no explanation of the change included. -- Ted Wright 4/3/2014 1pm
Thursday
Now
that I've taken my friendly swipe at both of these establishments
...I'll expand my comments. There are 7 dedicated pages of
Collinsville news and advertising starting about 15 pages
into the Owasso stack ... so the practical effect is only
a slight change ... but the emotional & community pride
change is significant. The Owasso paper is in year 49 (issue
37) while the standalone Collinsville News weekly "clock"
stops at 115 years (issue 46). I think the Collinsville News
founder (my great-grandfather W.L. Wright) got tired of rolling
over in his grave years ago. And I've been through many bank
buyouts / name changes since the flurry in the 1980s but had
always received an "introduction" letter from the
new owners in previous cases. -- Ted 4/3/2014 |

March 20, 2014 marks
the completion of 11 full years of www.cvilleok.com serving Collinsville
and the beginning of year 12.
Yesterday (March 19, 2014)
-- The "Collinsville News" reported they will convert
to a monthly print newspaper starting in April 2014. That newspaper
has been printed weekly since May 11, 1899 (the first 88 years by
my family) ... and will be just short of 115 years total this April.
