high temperature had Tulsa as the nations' hotest yesterday (July
31) ... and more of the same expected for today. Collinsville is
typically 2-3 degrees less ... but 109 was the highest I saw on
the CHS temperature link with just random checks for the last day
of July. I have a backlog of school info to get formatted for you:
random photos from a flurry of practices: band, volleyball, cheer,
football; CHS facility upgrades; season football ticket info, Cardinal
Club info, Cardinal online TV advertising, and other submitted news.

saw 108 degrees on the online school thermometer. I've been trying

info that is already obvious to anyone anywhere near Collinsville.

Sorry for the delayed coverage for last week's speed camp and cheer
camp. Other than the S-Curve/sidewalk editorial page, most of my
weekend has been spent on the school web site (which still needs
tons of work before school starts) and I'm now shifting to prep
for a long awaited park board meet with the city commission Tuesday.

adjacent property owners, as well as being at least 7 months late.

The
City Commission approved a $47,576 emergency contract to stabilize
the Veterans building by shoring the walls and removing
the remaining roof (which is now stressing the north and south walls).
The work could begin as soon as Friday if RECO Enterprises can round
up their crew and necessary equipment. The commission will likely
decide Monday (at the regularly scheduled meeting) on awarding additional
contract work for putting a new roof on the historic structure.

Building Roof Collapsed
-- The owners of Shanghi Express (next door) reported the collapse
of the former VFW building roof about 5:20pm Saturday July 7th.
They had noticed the roof sagging a bit July 4th, but heard the
crash today. It appears the building was unoccupied but police/fire
are investigating. The building was closed and in bad need of repair
but this was certainly unexpected. -- Ted 5:45pm Saturday -- more
