Looking Good -- The Depot Museum received a new coat of contrasting paint and a new air conditioner / heater recently.
Looking Gone -- The former 4-H / Senior Citizens / temporary City Hall Building will likely be gone by the end of this week.
Looking For Help -- The Veterans Building suffered a collapsed roof Saturday. Although city commissioners took an initial (safety / stabilization) step to saving the historic building at an emergency session yesterday (Wed. July 11th), the final estimate and decision to re-roof the structure is still pending.
It is certainly my hope the memorial to our veterans will be saved and restored to once again be a gathering place for the community.

The city commission met July 11th in City Hall (Collinsville's prime example of a saved historic building). They listened to Robert Stark describe the issues and plan to stabilize the Veterans Building before awarding an emergency contract to remove the dangling roof before further damage to the walls occurred and brace the walls pening a re-roof decision. (L-R facing Mr Stark are Dee Sink, Larry Shafer, Phil Stowell, Herb Weaver, Ken Underwood, Bud York & Brad Francis).
Contrasting Roofs -- The Veterans Building remaining roof (background) and likely the last photo of the roof of the 4-H-Sr-Citizens Building (foreground) look similar now but hopefully the end results will be different.
The former 4-H / Senior Citizens / temporary City Hall building at the Fairgrounds is being demolished this week. The building was damaged by fire in August 2011. The building was moved here in 1974 by the Fair Board and served a variety functions including City Hall after the Dec. 2001 City Hall fire.

The stone on the Veterans Building pleads it's own case this week.
Note: The caboose is also slated for new paint soon.
