CHS Football At Tahlequah
Cardinals Take Battle Of Undefeated 43-8 For Third District Win
As Brayden Burd (#22) scored on a one yard run he had Isaac House (#77) in the endzone waiting for him at 6:39 in the first quarter. The drive started at the Collinsville 46. Seth Weiser's extra point kick made the score 7-0.
Eli Benham (#10) with this early first quarter stop in front of the Cardinal bench.
Hayden Knight (#52) intercepted this twice tipped (Tacker & Kuykendall) Tahlequah pass and returned it to near mid field but it was placed back at the 31 with a block in the back call during the return (at 4:49 in the 1st quarter).
Cole Dugger (#12) passes complimented the "pounding" Collinsville running game.
Pass reception by Cale Hutchens (#9).
You better get the ball out quickly with this Collinsville pass rush.
Adam Carney (#55) missed an opportunity for a tackle of the Tahlequah ball carrier when he was "tackled" instead by a Tahlequah offensive lineman.
Malcom Tillman (#24) sprinted 33 yards (with a Talon Coulter #7 block) for the second Cardinal touchdown at 6:25 in the 2nd quarter. Weiser's kick made it 14-0 Collinsville.
Malcom Tillman (#24) sent this Tahlequah ball carrier flying with this 2nd quarter tackle.
Tres Sexton (#59) pressuring on this pass.
A Tahlequah punt had "pinned" Collinsville back at their own 9 yard line ... but that just gave Brayden Burd (#22) more room to run as he reeled off a 91 yard touchdown run on the next play. He reached the endzone with 4:20 left in the first half. The point after play was muffed and the score remained 20-0.
The Collinsville band was stuck in the stands during pre-game Tahlequah ceremonies and denied a half-time opportunity so had to march post-game (see photos at bottom of page).
Cole Kuykendall (#33) returned the 2nd half kickoff to the 26 yard line.
Cale Hutchens (#9) punted down to the Tahlequah 4 yard line (from Collinsville's 35) early in the 3rd quarter.
Cole Kuykendall (#33) intercepted Tahlequah and Collinsville was at Tahlequah's 25 (after a personal foul on the play) at 9:07 in the 3rd quarter.
Seth Weiser kicked a field goal (on 4th and 11 from the 12) with the ball near the "20" on the scoreboard that changed to "23" at 6:32 in the 3rd quarter.
These Cardinal defenders used all available resources for this 3rd quarter stop.
Colton Allphen (#1) 3rd quarter reception
Jake Tuttle reached the two yard line (and the one with the facemask penalty) and ran it in for a touchdown on the next play with 3:19 left to play in the 3rd quarter. Weiser's kick was good and the score 30-0.
Gage Tacker's (#84) pass rush gets an assist on Jake Tuttle's play below..
Jake Tuttle (#21) picked off a Tahlequah pass at about the 15 yard line and returned it for a touchdown at 3:07 in the 3rd quarter. Weiser's kick placed the score at 37-0.
Shortly after Tuttle's pick-6, Colton Allphen (#1) recovered a Tahlequah fumble at their 33 yard line.
Malcom Tillman (#24) scored the final Collinsville TD from 3 yards out at 2:01 in the 3rd quarter. The extra point kick went wide off the post and the score was 43-0.
Seth Weiser (#6) and other substitutes played most of the 4th quarter.
Just a few year back I commented it was a good opportunity for the football players to watch the band during a rare post-game performance at Tahlequah. The novelty of that has worn off (for me anyway) and seems a shame that our excellent band marched before essentially empty stands that had held thousand(s?) during pre-game and maybe already thinning at half-time (with Collinsville up 20-0). It also delays the start for the long drive back to Collinsville with the band heading to the BA contest the next day. -- Ted Wright
