Playoff Round 2
Cardinals Advance To Final 4 In Playoffs With
44-27 Win Over LM There
The Collinsville varsity football team started the long day Friday morning in the Collinsville locker room as they gathered their equipment before boarding two charter busses to Lawton for a second round 5A playoff game. The coaches went over specific game situations and sent the players off with the message that "we are not going to play cautious ... we are going to take changes ... and take the game to them."
Lunch was served at an Oklahoma City steak house about 1:30pm ... after munching on snacks provided by the boosters to start the trip (and Subway sandwiches on the bus for the happy return trip).
The Collinsville team arrived at the Cameron University stadium in Lawton with daylight time to spare to get taped and prepped to play Lawton McArthur on their home field. Additional busses with cheerleaders, band and students arrived later.
Cameron University's unique grass walled stadium on 3 sides also provided a view of the Wichita Mountains in the background out the open west end of the stadium.
The players stretched and warmed up during pre-game while the cheerleaders peiced together a new spirit sign for the team run-on to the field.
The student "Santas" got lucky with the pleasant November weather as Lawton was in the 70s when the team arrived and game time temperatures were in the 50's.
The cheerleader's spirit sign for the players to run through was about 3 cheerleaders tall.
The CCC band supported the Cardinal spirit from the Cameron University concrete seats.

Collinsville did not score on the game's first possession but covered a lot of ground after Brett Erickson got the kickoff out to the Card's 34. On the first play from scrimmage (above) Sheaffer Smith rushed all the way to MacArthur's 25 yard line. A few incompletions and a motion penalty stalled the drive and Lawton Mac took over on downs at their own 30.

MacArthur did score on their first possession, driving 70 yards and scoring with 6:28 left in the 1st quarter (for their only lead). But after a Seth Bomer punt to their 3 yard line, Roc Robbins (#44) grabbed the Lawton Mac QB in the end zone who tried to just throw away a pass to escape but it was a safety either way giving Collinsville 2 defensive points and good field position after Mac's kick.
Roc Robbins (#44) was in as a running/blocking back on several offensive plays picking up key yardage on several occasions (at the home of the Highlanders).
Levi Draper (#10) hauled in this Seth Boomer pass and got to the endzone with Collinsville's first touchdown covering 41 yards at 3:15 in the first quarter (and a 9-7 lead after Hadley's kick).
Levi Draper (#10) made this tackle and forced a fumble recovered by Collinsville (below) at the Cardinal 9 yard line with 1:14 left in the first quarter.
Brett Erickson (#11) took a Seth Boomer pass from Collinsville's 11 to Mac's 16 near the end of the first quarter.
Sam West (#13) went low to snag this Seth Boomer pass at the 3 yard line on the first play of the second quarter.
Roc Robbins (#44) backed his way into the endzone dragging MacArthur defenders with him on a 3 yard run at 11:29 in the 2nd quarter. After Cole Hadley's kick the score was 16-7.
Note: the yellow (soccer) line in the endzone is a bid distracting in my photos. -- Ted
A scrambling Seth Boomer (#12) sends a pass towards Sam West (below) from mid field.
Sam West (#13) took Boomer's pass in stride but was downed at the 12 yard line setting up the TD below.
Marcus Tillman (#24) took a Lawton Mac defender for a ride on his 12 yard TD run at 9:06 in the 2nd quarter. Hadley's kick (below) put the score at 23-7.
Cole Hadley (#9)... with Brandon Lowe (#2) spotting the ball ... made all of his extra point attempts and was successful in the field position match with his many kickoffs.
Josh Arnold (#43) made this 2nd quarter tackle. Jacob Harrison (#51) and his counterpart battled all evening.
QB Seth Boomer (#12) ... with a Nathan Schaffner (#58) block on this play ... didn't hit every receiver but burned the Lawton Mac secondary on plenty of occasions during an outstanding offensive performance. The defense and special teams had outstanding games also.
MacArthur started the second half with a 70 yard 5 play drive to tighten the score at 23-14 ... but Collinsville countered with about a 50 yard drive that ended with Brett Erickson (#11 above) scoring on a 27 yard Boomer TD pass/run at 8:20 in the 3rd quarter, Hadley's kick made the score 30-14.
Hayden West (#33) caught this 43 yard TD pass from Seth Boomer with 5:17 left in the 3rd quarter. The score was 37-14 after Cole Hadley's extra point kick. The pass came one play after the defense held Mac on downs at their own 34 yard line.
Levi Draper (#10) stopped this Lawton Mac runner in his tracks.
After intercepting a long Lawton Mac pass, Tyler Forrest (#1) made a long return to Mac's 20 and a penalty took the ball to the 10 yard line setting up the TD below.
Sheaffer Smith (#25) dove over a Lawton Mac defender for the final Cardinal touchdown (from10 yards out) with 2:39 left in the 3rd quarter. Hadley's kick made the score 44-14.
This view of Cole Hadley's kickoff after Collinsville's 44th point also shows Coach Tom Redding's perch (on the hillside between the goal posts) as he opted for the endzone view rather than the press box for this game.

Spencer Oslin (#65) tackle.
A lot of Collinsville fans made the long trip to southwest Oklahoma Friday.
Lawton Mac scored early in the 4th quarter (44-21) and followed with a successful onside kick and nearly scored again (above) with Tyler Forrest (#1) making a saving tackle near the 1 yard line. Forrest completed the "save" with an interception below.
Tyler Forrest (#1) stepped in front of a Lawton Mac pass near the Collinsville 1 yard line preventing a potential score and returned the interception out to the Lawton Mac 37 with 10:48 left in the 4th quarter.
Brandon Lowe (#2) took a few snaps as quarterback in the 4th quarter to give Mac a different look.
The Collinsville players and fans celebrated the impressive win as the Cardinals ended the season of the previously #1 ranked Lawton Mac (defending state champ) team that had ended the Cardinals playoff run last year at Sallee Field.
