RSU's 2nd Academic
All-American (First was from Collinsville) |
November 29, 2011
Sousa Named Academic All-American TOWSON, Md. Rogers State mens soccer player Henrique Sousa received Capital One Academic All-American second team honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The senior is only the second Hillcat to receive the honor as RSU baseball player Tyler Whitaker was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American first team by CoSIDA in 2008. Sousa played in all 20 games for the Hillcats, starting in 19 contests. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native is a business management major with a 3.50 GPA. The senior tallied seven goals and registered four assists on the year as he help guide the Hillcats to their fifth straight postseason. He was named first team all-conference for his efforts in his final season on the Hill. We are very proud of Henrique and all of his accomplishments on and off the field, said Derek Larkin, RSU head soccer coach. He has represented our program and the university well over the last four years. We wish him nothing but the best and I know his future is bright. The College Division Academic All-America® soccer teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. Sousa is one of two mens soccer players from the Sooner Athletic Conference to be recognized on the Academic All-American squad. To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the programs inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
