District Convention Hosted By
Collinsville Home Rep. Club
The 13th Annual GFWC-OK Northeast District Annual Convention was held in Collinsville, October 18 on a beautiful autumn day. Home Representative Club President Rusti Howard greeted GFWC guests from seven northeast district clubs in the vestibule of the Community Church, where they received a bag of donated items from various local businesses. The printed program for the day was created by Joyce Baker. Alberta Bonebrake was in charge of decorations, and chairmen Carolyn Brinkley and Helen Murphy organized the event. Overnight guest, State President Norma Warnke stayed at the home of Anita Mitchell.

Following registration and breakfast, District President Dona Clapp opened the meeting with the Call to Order, and the Collinsville VFW provided the Presentation of Colors and led the flag salute. HRC member Laura Colpitt Maul sang the national anthem, and Dr. Susan Babbitt, HRC member and Collinsville Chamber President gave the Welcome. Various district reports were given, as well as individual Club President Reports. Speaker for the event was Rick Brinkley, CEO of the Tulsa Better Business Bureau, with a message about "Scams, Shams, and Shenanigans." Always entertaining and informative, he shared his wisdom and cautions to an appreciative audience.

Lunch , cooked and served by HRC members was provided in the decorated Fellowship Hall . Laura Maul entertained with her rendition of "Amazing Grace," and Angela Mitchell - Education Coordinator for DVIS, delivered a talk about her experiences and work with the DVIS organization.

Reconvening after lunch, various GFWC members spoke on leadership, membership, fiscal matters, and "Strength in Knowing." HRC's Jeanie Barnes gave a touching memorial tribute to those GFWC members that had passed in the last year.

Amidst much fanfare, words of appreciation and admiration to the Collinsville Home Representative Club, the meeting adjourned in mid-afternoon - GFWC members leaving with a renewed dedication of community improvement and betterment of others through volunteer services.

In Case You Were Wondering?
Back on Oct. 24th, 2008, I had posted a notice on cvilleok.com to let me know if you had not received the phone book shown above (if you lived in Collinsville).
I received several emails from those that hadn't and it turned out the post office was running behind (short handed) and the deliveries did not complete for another week or so. I'm not normally in the business of promoting a particular phone book or checking deliveries ... but I had heard weeks before that one of my submitted photos (from the opening CHS Mannford game) was on the Collinsville cover and was anxious to receive one myself. I even received a few emails from former residents (including a former Mayor) who wished they had one to stay in touch with Collinsville friends. -- Ted Wright
This was my third cover for the Home Town Directories, Inc. folks. Note: Owasso and Oologah get their own photos for their books.

The 2005 State Championship Softball Girls photo was my first cover photo in 2006. A much larger version of the photo hangs in the CHS Gym.

These patriotic Wilson Elementary kids were in my second cover photo in 2007.
