There weren't many smiles on the Collinsville side of the mat as 5A Runner-Up awards were presented with the Cardinals coming up just short for the second year in a row. (L-R: CHS Principal Scott Kiker, CHS Athletic Director Jim Riley, and Coach Wes Harding).
For 5 straight years (2011-2012-2013-2014-2015) Collinsville's State Champs took plenty of photos with the top trophy. For the last two years (2016-2017) the runner-up trophy has been avoided by the disappointed wrestlers. After the team photo (at the top of this page) they walked off and left the trophy on the mat with Coach Harding finally returning to retrieve it for the trophy case. (TWEET)
The cheerleaders/mat maids kept themselves entertained waiting for finals to begin at Shawnee Saturday evening.
Ronnie Delk (a 2000 Collinsville HS graduate and 2-time state champ here) took over the Perry wrestling program in the 2011-12 school year and has help continue their winning tradition.
Chad Willard (a 2001 CHS grad) is head coach at Claremore where next week's regionals willl be hosted.
Wes Harding took over the Collinsville wrestling program in the 2010-11 school year and has been in the 5A Dual State finals ever year since as either champion or runner-up.
