CHS Wrestling Team Is 5A Dual State Champion For 4th Year In A Row
Collinsville Defeated Lawton Mac
In Close Finals Dual
Had Been Down 14-21
Before 30-27 Win
Also Eliminated Piedmont & Del City

I didn't comment directly on the photos above but will select just a few representative matches that stick in my memory from Saturday. Several closes matches were decided in the final seconds with some going in Collinsville's favor and some to the opponent. It was a great team effort with different individuals picking up the slack to reach the team goal.
* Ryan Haymaker's unusual fall near the end of his Del City match (& that dual) didn't have a big impact on the dual outcome but showed not to give up even when outscored and time running out.
* Early in the finals, Jake Douglass scored late in his match for a win instead of heading into overtime tied 1-1.
* Gary Wayne Harding's pin of his MacArthur opponent was so quick I barely got one photo taken of the match before it was over. That gave Collinsville their first lead in the finals at 24-21.
* Josh Arnold wrestled the final match of the night and didn't get an individual win (losing 5-6) but did his job and avoided getting pinned which was Lawton Mac's only hope at that point.

I have had the priviledge to watch these CHS student athletes over the past few years achieve many remarkable goals individually and as a team. We in Collinsville have become accustomed to their winning but they still have to go out and earn it each time against other teams also hoping to accomplish the same goals. Collinsville wrestlers (as well as other Collinsville sports teams) are well coached and mentally/physically prepared to take on the challenge. Winning Dual State 4 years in a row is huge, but they still have unfinished business at regionals & state to complete the 4 year sweep of Oklahoma 5A wrestling. I want to congratulate the wrestlers and everyone associated with the program for all of their efforts the past 4 years.

Collinsville wrestlers eliminated Piedmont 55-6 to advance in the 5A Dual State Tournament at Yukon. They wrestle Dell City next at 2pm. (Photos later) -- Ted 11:50am Sat 2/15/2014
5A Dual State wrestling teams (Collinsville, Altus, Lawton Mac, Piedmont, Del City, Shawnee, Coweta and Western Heights) will compete at Yukon starting at 10am (& 2pm) Saturday Feb. 15th ... with finals at 6:30 in a 1-day event). 6A teams will also compete at Yukon. -- Ted 2/6/2014
For those not planning to travel to Yukon, the OSSAA site says it will be live streamed (see the bracket above and their home page) ... but they said the same thing about our final playoff football game and that didn't happen.
