Introductions Before the Final Game of 2015 (in Oklahoma City)
Lady Cards Defensively: Payton Benham in right, Taylor Reed in center, Ashton Friend in left, Gail Young pitching, Darci Chester catching, Brittany Kickapoo first, Ravyn Murphy second, Makayla Bowman short and Rylee DeLozier third base.
Makayla Bowman (#23) made a diving stop on this 2nd inning ground ball but couldn't get the ball to 3rd base in time to prevent Pryor from loading the bases with one out. Pitcher Gail Young then got a strikeout and a pop up (below) to end the early threat.
Brittany
Kickapoo (#12) caught a pop up for the final out in the 2nd inning before
a great Collinsville crowd.
A
Collinsville error allowed Pryor to score their only run of the game
in the 3rd inning.
Rylee DeLozier (#15) tagged out the runner (behind the score above) with the throw from the outfield in the 3rd inning.
Gail
Young (#2) went the distance pitching all 12 inning of the finals victory
over district rival Pryor.
Ravyn Murphy (#5) got the out at first in the 7th (left) with a throw from Brittany Kickapoo (#12) but she was called out in another close play at first (left) in the 8th inning.
A
determined Gail Young still pitching strong in this 9th inning photo
still had work to do.
Lost Opportunity -- Collinsville had one out and two on in the 10th inning when a base running error put both runners at 2nd base and caused the 2nd out.
Pryor had several base runner and chances to walk off with the win in the later inning but the Collinsville Girls found a way to keep them off the scoreboard each time after the 3rd inning.
Collinsville players were jumping for joy as they ran to home plate to greet Ashton Friend after her 12th inning slam cleared the wall (see photo near top of page).
The scoreboard at Hall of Fame Stadium in OKC still read 1-1 pending Ashton Friend's 4:44pm arrival at home plate as she completed her path around the bases with the game winning 12th inning home run. Note the board was cleared after the 10th inning and innings 11 and 12 re-used the 1 and 2 spots.
Collinsville had the lead but Pryor still had a chance in the home half of the 12th until Brittany Kickapoo snagged this pop foul for game's final out. I wish I had been quicker on adjusting the focus as Brittany ran straight towards me ... but you can still see the joy and relief on her face as the big celebration began (below) for the new state champion team. -- Ted
There
was a brief "dog pile" moment, but by the time I got a clear
shot it was already over.
After each girl received their individual medals from Athletic Director Jim Riley and Superintendent Lance West, the team rushed West to claim their state championship trophy. [Check back later as I hope to create a supplemental page with individual photos for each team member. -- Ted}
The
girls took a small sample of "championship" dirt home with
them (in addition to that already on their uniforms).

Gail
Young's memorial dirt was collected inside the pitching circle as field
work for the 6A game had already begun.
