On
a day that started with the Cardinals losing a wrestler for failing to make
weight and giving up some placement pts, the Collinsville wrestling team regrouped
and stormed back to capture the 5A Eastern Regional. The Cards ended up with
2 Champions (GW Harding and Dylan Helm) a runner-up (Will Steltzeln) 3 3rd place
finishers (Zach Abkemeier, Josh Pennington, Keenan Priddy) and 3 4th placers
making 9 total state qualifiers for the
Cardinals. Collinsville captured the Regional Team Championship with 218.5 pts
to 2nd place Deer Creek with 191.5. The 4th place finishers were; Colin Harrington,

The
Collinsville Wrestling team powered 11 into the semi finals and looked like
they may wrap up the Class 5A Eastern Regional on Friday night. However, they
only managed to win 4 of those matches and will have to have a strong showing
in the consolations on Sat if they hope to bring home a Regional Championship.
Winning and moving into to Championship finals were Jacob Findley, GW Harding,
Will Steltzeln, and Dylan Helm. All other Cardinal wrestlers will fight through
the consolation on Sat and try to earn their way to the State Torunament in
OKC next weekend. The Cards went into the semi finals with a 17 pt lead over
2nd place Deer Creek. Cville had 101 pts to DC's 84. -- Jim Riley (2/18/2011

Finley had won his way into the regional 103 pound finals based on Friday's
results but had to forfeit that final match (and a trip to state) by being
1/10th pound over at the Saturday morning weigh-in.
Senior Corey Snow was also disappointed as his injured shoulder likely
prevented a return to state. |

Cardinal Wrestlers make it to the Semi finals at the Class 5A Eastern
Wrestling Regional in Tahlequah. The regional tournament is the quailifing
tournament for next weeks Ok State Wrestling Championships at the OKC
Fairgrounds Arena in OKC. A wrestler stamps his ticket to the State Tournament
by placing in the top 4 of their individual weight classes. Semi final
