112 pound 5A State Champion Gary Wayne Harding lifts his dad Coach Weston Harding who was named 5A Coach of the Year as finals started Saturday.
Collinsville's Head Wrestling Coach Weston Harding had the Oklahoma City Fair Grounds Arena floor almost to himself (right) as he strode out to receive recognition as 5A Wrestling Coach of the Year (left) before the matches began. This is Harding's first year as head coach taking over from long-time Cardinal Coach Mike Henry. Harding has been involved in the youth and school wrestling programs since starting with Collinsville schools in August 2005.
Collinsville was 3 for 3 in the finals but also had a big contribution from the 9 wrestlers that qualified for State & scored team points throughout the two-day tournament with a team total of 86.5.
All of the state qualifiers 3A+4A+5A+6A gathered for the pre-finals introductions on the mats Saturday night.
A few of the Cardinal State Qualifiers:
Collinsville had a nice cheering section including many in this area of the arena seating.
Gary Wayne Harding beat Eli Hale from Miami 8-0 in the finals. Harding also had wins (16-0) over Cole Powers from MacArthur in the semi-finals and (14-2) Michael Smith from Shawnee in the opening round.
Will Steltzlen beat Mark Carter from East Central 7-3 in the finals. He also had wins (3-0) over Jordan Litton (Altus) and pinned Austin O'Conner from Guthrie.
Dylan Helm beat J. Duran from Southeast 14-0 in the finals. He also had wins (9-1) over Jake Todd (Ada) and pinned Conner Kelley (Duncan) on Friday.

Dylan Helm (a sophomore was state runner-up at 119 in 2010 as a freshman).
Zach Abkemier and Josh Pennington won their consolation semi finals matches and earned 5 pts each and a spot in the consolation finals Sat afternoon. The CHS Cardinals wrestlers trail Altus 70 to 69.5 going into the consolation finals. -- Jim Riley 12:15pm Saturday 2/26/2011

Ted: Didn't know if you were aware that Garrett Martin was the 4A state champ at 215 lbs (for Oologah). He finished at 42-0 this year. His dad, Scott, was a 1976 CHS grad. -- Bart Schultheiss (2/28/2011)
