-- (home volleyball games have moved to new CUE gym in the mean time)
Scheduled to complete by end of October: new (practice) CHS gym -- will be called "Cardinal Gym"
Scheduled to complete sometime after 2nd gym: redo of old CHS commons for Choir and Library/Media Center
The new Collinsville Upper Elementary (C.U.E) "construction" is down to finishing touches and will be ready for 4th and 5th graders starting August 13th, 2015. The CUE commons area ceiling is a visual delight.
Much work work remains to be done in a very short time to have the new CHS Commons and Kitchen done before hungry students arrive August 13th.
The new CHS practice gym will be ready for use in November if the completion estimates are met.
The remodeled CHS gym will be ready for use in October if the completion estimates are met.
The last portion of the CHS upgrade (after the two gyms complete) will be converting the "old" commons area into the new chorus room along with a new library/media center.
The Collinsville School Board toured three campuses Wednesday July 29, 2015 to see the construction and moving progress first hand ... with every elementary grade except 3rd at a new location this fall. L-R: Wendell Johnson, Memory Ostrander, Steve Stout, Tim Reed, Kevin Morrison, Superintendent Lance West, and Construction Manager Chad Brewer at the Upper Elementary building south entry.
New Wilson 6th Grade Center Principal Jennipher Keim greeted the school board on their first stop Wednesday.
The 4 new alternative classrooms at the converted Wilson campus can serve up to 60 students. These students will be in a separate area and on a different time schedule than the 6th graders.
Lance West took the board members on each of the parent (and bus) loops to explain the changes designed to draw traffic off of 129th E. Ave. The parent path to ECC has been extended with a turn-about added near the baseball fields just past the soccer fields.
The upper elementary gym was ready for the first air conditioned volleyball practice this summer the following morning (July 30th) after many practices already at the "warm" middle school gym with the HS gym out of commission since the end of basketball in the spring.
Not a major project ... but certainly a good addition at the high school ... a paved path between the two east entrances. There is also a new sidewalk on the south side of the building that will eventually connect to the new parking by the freshman center.
Boys and girls locker rooms under the CHS gym bleachers have had extensive work done to fix plumbing and drainage issues as well as rearrange a few walls.
This view of the new gym is from the west windows of the old commons.
