April 1, 2015 School Board Construction Inspection |
The flooring strips for the new Upper Elementary gymnasium are on site and a plywood base (with padded spacers that goes below that top layer of wood) is now being placed by workers.
This view of the new Commons Area at the high school is seen from the opening where the former chorus room was on the west side of the old building. The walls are up and the ceiling joists are being installed. The old CHS football locker room & weight (metal building) is visible through the window openings to the north.
The new Commons Area at the Upper Elementary is much further along than the one at the high school with interior work continuing.
The classroom wing at the Upper Elementary is the most complete at either construction site and will be the new home of 4th and 5th graders by this August.

The new CHS "practice" gym still has much work remaining as the walls are not yet ready for the steel roof joists waiting on the ground. The new gymnasium is on the west side of the property and the new commons area will be between the two gyms at the high school. The old commons area will be converted to new chourus and media areas but only after the new commons (& kitchen) are completed.
This is the plywood subsurface that is being installed at the Upper Elementary gym prior to the final Maple wood playing surface. The photo below shows the underside of the plywood with spaced rubber cushions providing just a small amount of "give" to the floor.
Six retractable basketball back boards are already installed at the Upper Elementary (the two main game nets and 4 practice goals) that can be dropped down from the ceiling on the sides of the court.
The Collinsville School Board inspected both school construction sites Wednesday April 1, 2015.
