CHS Football At Grove
Collinsville Now 5-1
With 33-12 Win At Grove
Koscheski & Burd TDs
Rain Held Off But Misty 2nd Quarter
After Collinsville gave up a fumble on the 2nd play from scrimmage (to Grove at the Card's 21) the defense held them there and escaped with a Grove missed field goal. Collinsville then took over at the 20 (above) and drove 80 yards for the games first score (below).
QB Shawn Koscheski (#1) covered the final 40 yards of Collinsville's 2nd possession for a touchdown at 8:22 in the first quarter. Haymaker, Burd and Koscheski provided all 80 yards on the ground for the drive. Dakota Bogg's PAT kick was short and the score was 6-0.
The Collinsville Crimson Cadet Band entertained from the stands on what had been expected to be a rainy Friday evening. The football game was played on Grove's new artificial turf which prevented heavy rains earlier in the day from being a game-time factor.
A solid Collinsville defense kept Grove off the scoreboard until the final few minutes of the game. Justin Kothe (#45), Chander Cole (#6), and Roc Robbins (#44) combined for this first quarter stop.
Brandon Lowe (#2) prevented a Grove completion on this first quarter pass attempt deep in Collinsville territory.
Ryan Haymaker (#25) got Collinsville some breathing room out to the 10 (above) and then the 15 yard line after Grove had punted to the 6 yard line late in the first quarter. Two plays later (in the 2nd quarter) Shawn Koscheski had an 80 yard apparent TD run called back by penalty (below).
Shawn Koscheski (#1) is just passing the line of scrimmage (20) on an 80 yard play that was called back to the 40 yard line early in the 2nd quarter.
Blake Burd (#22) scored Collinsville's 2nd touchdown on this 10 yard run at 6:05 in the 2nd quarter. Brett Erickson is running interference against the last defender. Dakota Boggs' extra point attempt was wide and the score was 12-0.
Josh Arnold (#43) sacked Grove's QB back at the 8 yard line bringing up a 4th and 14 in the 2nd quarter.
QB Shawn Koscheski (#1) inflicted most of his damage to the Grove defense with his rushing yardage but also completed a few passes including this one to Sam West (#13) down to the 16 yard line late in the 2nd quarter. That still left a 4th and 2 which the Cards went for but failed to gain turning the ball over on downs with 2:35 left in the first half.
Shawn Koscheski (#1) was a shirt sleeve from busting another long run on this early 3rd quarter stop by Grove.
Justin Kothe (#45) made this sack in the 3rd quarter.
Blake Burd (#22) scored from 39 yards out on this 1st down play with 3:22 left in the 3rd quarter. Cole Hadley kicked the extra point for a 19-0 score.
Shawn Koscheski (#1) nearing the goal line on a 71 yard TD run on the first play of the 4th quarter. Cole Hadley's kick put the score at 26-0. Koscheski scored on a 17 yard keeper on the next possession to put Collinsville up 33-0 after Hadley's kick. That short TD drive was set up by the fumble recovery below.
I didn't see exactly how the play unfolded but Collinsville's Chris Kallin (#74) ended up with the ball at the 29 yard line (with 10:56 left in the game) after Grove started the play with possession.
Koscheski's final TD ... from 17 yards out.
Tyler Fanning (#3) was one of many players getting some valuable playing time in the closing minutes of the game. Grove scored two late touchdowns.

33-12 CHS Football Win At Grove. I'm sure the starters would like to have protected the potential shutout, but a lot of players got some valuable game experience in the closing minutes. Shawn Koscheski had his "track" shoes on with a few long trips to the endzone. -- Photos later -- Ted 11:40pm Friday 10/10/2014
