Photos From Saturday's 5A State Wrestling Finals At Oklahoma City
Collinsville Won Their 4th Straight Team Title And Won 3 of their 7 Championship Matches
(L-R) Will Steltzlen, Gary Wayne Harding and Christian Moody won individual 2014 state championships at their weights. This was the 4th state title for both Steltzlen and Harding which was a first for Oklahoma having two wrestlers in the same year complete the 4 year sweep. Gary Wayne Harding became the 31st Oklahoma HS wrestlers to win 4 times and Will Steltzlen became the 32nd. Junior Christian Moody won his 2nd state title and has also been a runner-up in his 3 years so far.
Collinsville had half of the wrestlers (7) in the finals on their side of the 5A bracket. All of the 13 Collinsvile state qualified wrestlers survived the first day and those not in the finals wrestled Saturday morning in consolation matches racking up additional team points for the Cardinals (not shown in these photos)..
CHS Freshman Nate Kiem wrestled a Deer Creek freshman in the 106 pound finals Saturday. Nate ended up the state runner-up in a tough 1-2 overtime loss.
CHS junior Christian Moody won the 113 pound finals 5-4 for his 2nd State Title.
CHS senior Jacob Findley sufferred a 0-1 loss in the 120 lbs final. He was the 120lb runnerup last year also.
CHS senior Dakota McGarrah lost 5-6 in his 132 pound final.
CHS senior Gary Wayne Harding scored a 16-0 technical fall at 138 pounds for his 4th straight state title.
CHS senior Will Steltzlen won his 4th straight state title with a 3-1 win in 145 pounds finals.
CHS junior Wyatt Jordan was outscored 2-7 in the 152 pounds finals.
If the CHS wrestling team hopes to defend their state title again in 2015 they will need to replace this outstanding group of seniors (L-R) Dakota McGarrah, Keenan Priddy, Jacob Findley, Will Steltzlen, and Gary Wayne Harding.
This was an early view of the Collinsville cheering section (as folks were still entering the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds Pavilion).
Coach Weston Harding (left holding the coach's trophy) has won the 5A State Championship in each of his 4 years as CHS Head Wrestling Coach. Superintendent of Schools Terry Due (center) and CHS Athletic Director Jim Riley prepare to hand the 5A State Championship trophy to the waiting team prior to the photo at the top of this page. Harding is assisted by Coaches Mike Henry and Jon Benham.

NewsOK.com Video Interview of Harding & Steltzlen -- 3/2/2014

I was up until after 4:30am getting my photos and video loaded and organized on my computer and now have just a few hours sleep. Check back (much later) for wrestling and basketball photo pages. -- Ted 10am Sunday
Cards crown 3 Champs and win 4th straight Team Wrestling Championship. Christian Moody won his second State Crown and Gary Wayne Harding and Will Steltzlen both won their 4th. Nate Kiem, Jacob Findley, Dakota McGarrah and Wyatt Jordan finished second while Justin Walker, Keenan Priddy and Jake Douglass placed 4th. -- Jim Riley 3/1/2014
TThe CHS Wrestlers easily earned their 4th straight 5A Team Title and had 3 individual champions: Moody, Harding & Steltzlen. Photos and details later. I hope everyone got home safely from OKC as the roads are very slick. -- Ted 1am Sun.
Ted's Tactical Plan: I hope to have photos of the basketball girls hoisting a regional plaque and the wrestlers hoisting another state championship trophy by the end of the day. But you won't see any status here on either until about midnight as I plan to travel light and leave my computer in Collinsville. Spending any update time after basketball here might delay me getting to OKC for the first match of the wrestling finals and any delay there might give me more minutes on the potentially icy roads late this evening. -- Ted Wright -- noon Saturday 3/1/2014
Cardinals put 7 in the finals at the Oklahoma HS State wrestling tournament and look like they will 4peat as Oklahoma Class 5A team State Champions. Nate Kiem, Christian Moody, Jacob Findley, Dakota McGarrah, GW Harding, Will Steltzlen, Wyatt Jordan all advanced to the finals on Sat night at the OKC State Fairgrounds Arena starting at 5:45. Six other wrestlers are still wrestling in the consolations. That round will start at 10:00 am on Sat. -- Jm Riley 10pm Friday Feb. 28, 2014
5A State Wrestling -- Cardinals are going strong at State! 7 in the finals and the other 6 still alive on the backside! It'll be a great day tomorrow in OKC! -- Danielle Robbins (Facebook post ~9:30pm Friday) 2/28/2014
5A State Wrestling -- Cardinals win 11 matches in first round of State tournament. Jake Douglass capped off the first round with an over time win against the number one seed from the west to send 11 Cardinal wrestlers into the semi finals tonight at 7:00 in OKC. Adding to Douglass' win was the fact that his opponent was from Collinsville's closest competition Lawton MacArthur. Josh Arnold and Roc Robbins lost in the first round and wrestle tonight at 5:00 in an elimination round.-- Jim Riley 2/28/2014 (2:30pm Friday) -- 5A Brackets
