Collinsville's 14-31 loss to Grove last season was the only regular season loss.
Collinsville had a shot at recovering a short kickoff to start the 2nd half but it rolled out of bounds.
Collinsville scored on their first possession in the 2nd half. Quarterback Shane Douglas covered the final 20 yards slowing briefly to dance with Grove's #1 (left photo) before reaching the endzone (center photo). Jamaro Oakley (#31) caught the extra point pass for a 20-0 score at 6:05 in the 3rd quarter. Both plays were featured on the Channel 6 TV sports news with video from their hovering helicopter.
Josh Pennington (#81 left) made this tackle near the sidelines in the 3rd quarter with Andrew Thompson (#80) ready to assist.
Grove had just scored (on a 45 yard keeper) to close to 20-7 with 8:28 left in the game and followed with Collinsvile pinned at their own two yard line (above) on the ensuing kickoff. Grove never got the ball back with Collinsville driving down to Grove's 15 running out the clock in the process.
One of the key plays in the final time chewing drive for Collinsville was this 3rd down pass by Shane Douglas from the endzone. Jamaro Oakley made the catch at the 32 yard line (with an "agressive" offensive move) and gained a critical 1st down.
The Collinsville players, coaches and fans were thrilled with the long awaited win over Grove. The Cardinals are now 2-1 in District 4A-3 and 4-2 on the season with Jay, McClain, Vinita and Oologah games remaining.
