The 2009 Girls Cross Country team brought home a big 5A State Championship trophy the last day of October. They were each presented a small replica version of that trophy at a Dec. 17, 2009 banquet. They are still fund raising for state championship rings which will be presented at the Jan. 15th home basketballl game if all goes well. L-R: Katie North, Jenny Dyer, Amy Fry, Shelbie Kirby, Haylie Kirby, Mercades Jesse, Myranda Murphy, Brandi Green, Taylor Captain, Sara House, Hayley Taylor, Elizabeth Blissit, & Coree Lenhart.
ALL-STATE
Cross Country is the only HS sport that awards All-State honors based on performance in the State Finals (a top 10 finish) instead of other selection criteria. Collinsville had 4 All-Staters this year (2 seniors and 2 freshman) L-R: Seth Marsh (boys 9th), Jenifer Dyer (girls 3rd), Shelbie Kirby (girls 8th) and Haylie Kirby (girls 9th) in 5A.
Justin Caruthers was one many CHS football players introduced and commented on by Head Coach Lance West at the Dec. 14th football program. (All-District)
Junior QB Shane Douglas was standing for his recognition from Coach West last Monday. Douglas finished the season with 990 yards passing. He had his best game against Sallisaw in the playoffs per Coach West.
Two DVD videos by Jacob Campbell (in the right photo with Region 7 Cross Country Coach of the Year Arlin Stacy) documented the outstanding 2009 season by the girls cross country team.
The Cross Country Girls were also honored in the Christmas Parade (Dec. 12th) and with with City of Collinsville proclamation (Dec. 16th). The team also finished 2nd in the state academics with a 3.67 GPA.

Ted Comment: I can't think of a time before when a CHS Girls Basketball team had so many freshman playing who already have either State Softball tournament experience (Driggers & Smith) or Cross Country State rings (the Kirby twins). Those freshman number increase if you include the CHS cheerleading squad at courtside. I'd also be surprised if there were any cheer team anywhere that could beat the combined 2 mile run time of the CHS cheer squad (with 6 cross country girls).
