School Construction Progress
School Board Toured High School & New Upper Elementary Construction Sites
Scheduled To Complete For 2015-16
Everything has been cleared behind (west) of the existing High School (including utility lines, temporary buildings and slabs) and footings for the new extension to the building complex are expected to be poured in the next week or so. The additions will include a new practice gym, cafeteria/commons, and locker rooms.
The school board members (& Brewer Construction staff) stepped inside the back of the high school where the former chorus room had been located (west of the current gym).
The former CHS chorus room has been gutted down several feet below the former stage level to match the grade west of the old building and will be the primary location of the new commons area between the two gymnasiums.
The board members took a side trip at the high school and saw a different type of construction. This was welded by CHS FFA students in the ag building.
The board toured the new "track/cross country" building east of the track which was "salvaged", moved and combined from 2 of the metal building moved from behind the high school building. This locker room is currently in use by JrHi football.
The 3rd stop of the unique moving school board meet (which started at the normal Education Service Center meeting location and then moved to the high school) was at the new Upper Elementary site (west of Herald Elementary & ECC off 129th East Ave.). The building portion nearest the camera is the north end of a long classroom wing. The taller structure in the background is the gym.
The building section above (between the classrooms and gym) will be the commons / cafeteria area on the north side of the upper elementary (4th & 5th grade next year) building complex.
The touring school board (L-R): Memory Ostrander, Kevin Morrison, Wendell Johnson, Steve Stout, Tim Reed, & Superintendent Lance West.
Many of the walls inside the classroom section have been sheet rocked but a few rooms are still open.
The new full-sized upper elementary gym is roofed but only partially enclosed.
This view just west of the UE gym is facing north towards the youth baseball fields and shows just a portion of the ground work outside the buildings that will provide drainage areas, parking lots, playgrounds, and multiple bus loops serving 3 campuses.
This is the hallway near the gym and the recently approved (alternate) bid for the media center on the south west corner of the building complex.
