School Construction
Also 1st Baptist Church
& Insects
High School & Upper Elementary
Steady progress continues on the new "Upper Elementary" that will house 4th and 5th graders in just another year. Construction will continue as students begin classes this Thursday August 14th. This is a view looking from near the baseball fields towards the southeast with the classroom wing on the left and the gymnasium on the right.
This view of the new upper elementary building was taken inside the Early Childhood Center (ECC) dining area. The ECC and Hearald Elementary students will have a ring side seat to watch the construction over the next few months ... including new and extended bus loops serving the three adjacent buildings starting with the 2015-16 school year.
The First Baptist Church expansion project on the SE corner of 14th and Main will be easily tracked by the Middle School students just a half block away. The crossing guard location will be moved a block further west (to 15th Street) on Main until the Church project is completed (& sidewalks are available again).
While the teachers and other school employees were gathered in the adjacent CHS Commons (Monday morning August 11th) workers were hauling material out of the former chorus room just west of the existing CHS gym as demolition work is under way to allow major rennovations to the high school facilities.
The City of Collinsville electrial crew was removing the remnants of the old overhead electrical lines west of the high school building Monday. The new electrical system to accomodate the high school rennovations are now underground.
These "bug" photos are a stretch for a "construction" page but three of them were taken along the road between ECC and the ball fields Friday just after I took the top photo on this page of the upper elementary. I'm also learning a new camera's settings and features so I've taking a ton of photos the past few weeks (even more than usual with my old 2004 vintage camera which I will continue to use also). I noticed the wasp -vs- spider struggle in my back yard as I mowed Sunday evening. I don't know what happened before I spotted them but watched as the wasp drug the non-struggling spider about 6 feet through the grass to a hiding place under some boards. -- Ted Wright 8/11/2014
