Hopefully this will once again become a familar sight ... a stream of kids entering the Collinsville Library via the front door facing Main Street. That traditional entry was closed during the major remodeling about 10 years ago with the elevator and handicap entry added at the back of the 1917 vintage Carnegie Library building. The gating changes are not complete but the door was open during the Thursday ceremony as a preview of things to come.
A nice sized crowd gathered at the Library May 17th for a multi-purpose celebration joined by a member of the Tulsa women's profession basketball team, Miss Collinsville(s), Collinsville girls basketball players, kids, Chamber of Commerce members, Library friends, City & Tulsa County Library officials.
Sign Up For Summer Reading Program
Shavonte Zellous (WNBA Tulsa Shock Guard) spoke to the kids about the importance of reading and stayed to sign autographs. The Shock are just a few games into their initial summer season in Tulsa. (Previous Coverage)
Teen helpers were signing kids up for summer reading.
There are games and computers for kids also.
Bailey Chamber (2010 Miss Collinsville Outstanding Teen, left) and Taylor Upson (2010 Miss Collinsville) visited with the youngest kids attending the Library event May 17th.
The latest round of Library improvements are not complete (including the parking lot paving and front door entry for example) but I was surprised to see a set of metal stairs being hoisted to the recently repaired roof Friday May 28th (the day after the activities above). According to Dr. Babbitt the stairs are expected to reduce contact to the 1917 vintage roof tiles when utility work is required on the roof. I noticed at the end of the day Friday that the stairs were back in the parking lot and the crane gone ... so assume a later attempt will be required for the final installation.

After the outdoor activities Thursday Miss Collinsville read a story book to many of the gathered youth.
