Twenty-two members of the Collinsville Nifty Fifties Alumni Association flew out of Tulsa on Continental Airlines Express Jet on August 18 arriving 3 hours later at Neward, NJ airport. On the Carnival Cruise Line transfer the bus driver took the group on a grand tour of downtown New York City that included Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, 42nd Street, and passed several theaters which included those playing "Chicago" and "Mamma Mia". Also those TV studios where Good Morning America and the David Letterman Show are broadcast.
Monday evening passing the Statue of Liberty and seeing the Empire State Building was probably the highlights sailing out of the harbor and of course the incredible skyline of NYC. After spending Tuesday "At Sea" the ship arrived in St. John's New Brunswick. Several ground excursions were available, but most took tours that included the Reversing Falls where the river changes directions when the tide comes in and when it goes out. Shopping at the famous "The Market" was a must for most in the group. Many personal souvenirs and gifts were purchased here.
On Thursday the ship docked at the pier in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Many different tours were available here also. Most of the group took those including Peggy's Cove, which most of the group would highly recommend that people see if they are in Halifax. Setting sail on a three mast sailing ship was another option taken. The ship sailed throughout the harbor and out on the Atlantic pointing out many historical sights.
Friday was another day at sea returning to NYC on Saturday morning. After disembarking on Saturday morning the group boarded the Express Jet around 5:00 p.m. and arrived back in Tulsa at around 8:00 p.m. On our approach to the Tulsa airport they were able to view the new football field here in Collinsville----"it looks fantastic from the air"!!!!!!!!

New Grass Downtown (& S-Curve?)
Grass has been added around the sidewalk at the south end of the City's unfinished plaza with a sprinkler system to keep it green. I'm still waiting to see what (other than the curb) will keep unfamiliar drivers from South 11th from attempting to drive through the former intersection when the orange barrels are eventually removed? -- Ted Wright (8/29/2008)
The sod was not yet present in this August 20th view of the new downtown streetlights. (Previous Streetscape Coverage)
Gerogia and I were also wondering if the sod that appeared this week in the S-Curve realignment right-of-way was somehow related to the downtown sod? The photo (looking west from 17th Street) shows the new sod at the site of the former laundromat. The view also shows that the former gas station (closer to 18th Street) has been razed recently. (Previous Laundromat Coverage) (More Recent S-Curce)
