I have a page of notes from Rep. Sears address to the Collinsville Chamber ... but anyone in the State of Oklahoma in the past year has already been swamped with news coverage of the on-going budget crisis ... so I will keep this brief and mention just a few of the many topics covered. -- Ted Wright |
* Oklahoma (&
the nation's) economy turns with the price of oil -- two budget failures
were declared cutting 7% from last year's budget * Education is biggest chunk of the entire state budget -- 31% to public education (K-12) -- flat for 2017 -- 15% to higher education (college) -- took 10% cut - expect tuition raise -- 2% to career tech * Corrections (flat) and health services (slight increase) ... most other agencies took cuts for 2017 * No new money was given to the legislative staff (despite what Facebook says). Funds were moved to new accounts * Expect some future additional revenue from tax credit cleanup ... but more is needed * Still looking for additional revenue sources |
