Valentines For Veterans (At Claremore)

I just wanted to let you know that we had taken the 4th grade kiddos to deliver their own "Valentines for Vets" this morning.

It was an amazing day, and there should be a few pictures attached.

Thanks! -- Paula Caudill -- (2/12/2015)

RSU Women's Track and Field Competes in Inaugural Meet at Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Rogers State women's track and field broke new ground competing in its inaugural meet Friday and Saturday at the Missouri Southern Lion Invite in Joplin, Missouri.

"The first meet is in the books," Head Coach Chris McCormick said. "It was a great meet and a good learning opportunity for our team. It was very exciting to see sprinters out there representing RSU and seeing the mile relay."

Seniors Candace Monigold and Katie Ellington go down in the history books as the first to run for the Hillcats finishing the 60 meters Friday in times of 8.64 and 8.99 seconds, respectively, but did not make the finals.

The RSU distance medley relay team of Haley Taylor, Hailey Gillispie, Ashtyn DeRoin, and Christi Dougherty ran to a seventh-place time of 13 minutes, 8.27 seconds in the 13-team event earning the highest-finish for the Cats.

Freshman Cambridge Coy led a trio of Hillcats in the 200 meters Friday night on the indoor track crossing the finish line in 28.11. Monigold (28.68) and Ellington (29.76) also ran in the finals closing the first night of competition. The three ran the 400 meters Saturday finishing in the same order as Coy led the charge in 36th overall in a time of 1:06.41 followed by Monigold (1:07.58) and Ellington (1:10.75).

Hannah Tobias made her track and field debut as the lone entrant in the mile run. The freshman placed 41st in a time of 5:57.12 getting back to action Saturday afternoon.

In the 800 meters, the Hillcats had their greatest contingent of contenders and it was freshman Ashtyn DeRoin earning a top-10 finish running to ninth in 2:23.47 while Hailey Gillispie also placed inside the top 20 in 17th in a time of 2:30.16. Jocelyn Buckner (2:38.46), Malinda Moore (2:43.78), and Danielle Wolf (2:45.82) rounded out the finishers for RSU.

The 1,600-meter relay team of Coy, Monigold, Ellington, and Gillispie closed the season-opening meet for RSU placing 17th in a time of 4:26.67.

The Hillcats return to action Saturday in Norman, Oklahoma at the Oklahoma Baptist Indoor starting at 10 a.m.
