Collinsville Wins 4th In A Row With District Win
55-34 Over East Central
5 McElroy & 3 Haymaker TDs
TV Channel 6 broadcast from Collinsville High School early Friday morning and presented their spirit stick to Collinsville (which had last been decorated by Sperry).
I haven't counted them all yet but the seniors and their families stretched nearly the length of Sallee Field at the Senior Night pre-game ceremony. I have individual photos which will appear on their cvilleok senior pages in May 2014. -- Ted
The QB Club still hadn't gotten all the air out of the inflatable football helmet before Marcus Tillman (#24) ended East Central's opening drive with an interception and return to the East Central 35 yard line at 11:11 in the first quarter. Collinsville scored a few plays later on a 4 yard Zane McElroy QB keeper at 8:54 in the first period. Sergio Perez kicked the extra point for a 7-0 score.
Zane McElroy (#4) had good blocking on this play in Collinsville's second possession.
The 2013 CHS Softball Lady Cardinals were recognized at the end of the first quarter.
Justin Kothe (#45) got a hand full of football as he blocked East Central's extra point attempt after they scored on the first play of the 2nd quarter. That left the score at 7-6.
T.J. Johnson (#6) carried a Zane McElroy pass from Collinsville's 44 down to East Central's 12 yard line setting up Collinsville's 2nd score.
Zane McElroy (#4) covered the final 12 yards for the 2nd Collinsville score at 10:29 in the 2nd quarter. Perez's kick made it 14-6.
Ryan Haymaker (#25) took this pitch from Zane McElroy down to the 14 yard line (after East Central took a 20-21 lead).
Zane McElroy (#4) put Collinsville back in the lead with only 9.8 seconds remaining before halftime on this 5 yard run around end. Sergio Perez kicked the PAT for a 26-21 score.
The CHS Cheerleaders entertained at halftime before the CCC Band.
The band was dressed for both Halloween and their annual light show performance Friday before the lights were turned out at halftime.
Zane McElroy (#4) didn't score one of his 5 rushing touchdowns on this 3rd quarter play but got good yardage. McElroy also tossed two TD passes in just his 2nd game of the year (8th for the other Cardinals).
Zane McElroy (#4) completed this pass to Tyler Forest (#81) to reach the 5 yard line on the 2nd half opening possession for Collinsville.
Zane McElroy (#4) scored from 5 yards out at 7:49 in the 3rd quarter. Perez's kick made it 33.21.
The 89 points scored Friday night highlighted the offensive strenghts of both teams but there were plenty of critical defensive plays also. The Collinsville defense intercepted East Central twice and prevented 4th down conversions a few times.
This was McElroy's 5th rushing TD of the game as he made the score 39-27 with 3:14 left in the 3rd quarter on a 9 yard keeper. Perez's kick added the 40th point.
T.J. Johnson (#6) leaped high to intercept this 4th quarter East Central (halfback) pass at their 40 yard line.
Ryan Haymaker (#25) took two plays to cover 40 yards for a Collinsville TD after T,J.'s interception. The 35 yard TD run came at 8:38 in the 4th quarter. A 2-point conversion run by Zane McElroy put the score at 48-27.
Sergio Perez (#9) kicked the final (55th) Collinsville point after a 20 yard Ryan Haymaker TD run with 1:31 left in the game. (EC had scored on a 15 yard pass at 6:37 to close to 48-34.)

Senior Night & Band Light Show
Next Two Games On The Road

CHS teacher Missy DeLozier did a great job transforming the Channel 6 Spirit stick into a Cardinal version before the Friday evening game began. Athletic Director Jim Riley proudly displayed the spirit stick and the Collinsville victory on the scoreboard in the final minute.
The Collinsville Crimson Cadet Band has had a busy week already with OSSAA Wednesday, playing at the Spirit Stick activities early Friday morning, Halloween and Light Show Friday night before travel to OBA Saturday.
The band directors joined in the fun with Hallowen costumes at the last regular season home game.
Shawn Koscheski (#1) made the tackle on this East Central ball carrier in the 1st quarter.
I barely got a photo of the 3rd Collinsville touchdown as Ryan Haymaker (#25) is almost blocked from my camera by TJ Johnson. Haymaker caught a McElroy pass at the first down marker and ran the rest of the way to the end zone for 35 yards total. Perez's kick was wide leaving the the score at 20-14.
T.J. Johnson (#6) and Zane McElroy (#4) celebrate McElroy's TD that had just been signaled (but not yet added to the scoreboard) to send Collinsville to the locker room with a halftime lead of 26-21.
The band performed the same marching program Friday evening with the lights out ... that they will do before the OBA (state) judges Saturday at Mustang (with sunlight).
Keenan Hamilton (#20) nearly got a sack but the elusive EC quarter back got off an incomplete pass on this 3rd quarter play.
Shawn Koscheski (#1) and Levi Draper (#10) combined on this tackle late in the 3rd quarter.
Keenan Priddy (#21) knocked the ball loose from East Central's scrambling quarterback (Travon Cherry) on the final play of the game. Cherry was injured somehow and unfortunately carted from the field before the last few seconds could be run off.
