Note:
There is considerable history for past CHS Girls Basketball (state)
teams but I plan to keep the hardworking 2013 basketball ladies
as the main story until their run at a 5A state title is complete
later this week. The 1984 Collinsville Lady Cardinals were 3A
State Champs. -- Ted Wright 3/4/2013 -- GOOD LUCK LADIES!! |

The
Collinsville Lady Cards (making their first State Tournament trip in a generation)
fell behind by 10 by the end of the first quarter before outscoring Deer Creek
34-26 in the next 3 quarters. The rally fell just short after Collinsville finally
tied the score at 40-40 with less than 45 seconds left in the game. Deer Creek
scored again but Collinsville couldn't get a shot off in the final 7.4 seconds.

Shelby Kirby's shot below.
This

Deer Creek tied the score at 40-all.
The
CHS Baseball team delayed their home game with BTW so they could be at Catoosa
to help cheer on the CHS Basketball Ladies.
The
excellent fan support started in downtown as the basketball Ladies started their
trip to the State opening round game. The right photo is from Tara Howard's

One
side of the gym was full of red shirted Cardinal fans with studends standing
at the end of the court.
Dakota
Jefferson (#25) and Haylie Kirby (#11) tracked down this loose ball in the 3rd
quarter.
3rd
quarter offensive rebound for Samantha Smith (#13).

Kelly Clarke providing directions for the "Cardettes".
The
Collinsville defense limited Deer Creek to just 9 points in the 4th quarter.
This
Kelsey Clarke (#14) 3-pointer got Collinsville within 6 at 29-35 and about 6
and a half minutes left.
I
had already bagged up my camera and missed a memorable shot a few monents before
this as the Lady Cards made a final "Curtain Call" to thank their
fans before leaving the court for the last time (5 seniors). -- Ted
