Jr. Hi Update -- August, 23rd 2011
CARDINAL FOOTBALL

The Freshmen Football Team matched up with the Bartlesville Bruins in a controlled scrimmage this past Friday night. The running game of the freshmen produced large gains with the huge holes produced by the offensive linemen. The aerial attack was a dominating force for the 9th grade Cardinals as they scored 3 times in the air. The pass protection was outstanding, as the Bruins used many stunts and zone blitzes to attempt to confuse the Cardinal linemen and running backs in their protection schemes.
On defense, the Cardinals were too much for the Bruins, as the Bartlesville running game was stuffed at the LOS time after time. Bartlesville completed just one pass for the night. All 34 players for the Cardinals saw action. No injuries were reported.
The Cardinals take on Claremore September 8th at Sallee Field.
The 7th and 8th grade played a controlled scrimmage against Tulsa Kelley this past Monday and Tuesday. Both teams moved the ball on offense and played very aggressive defense. All of the 93 players for the 7th and 8th grade saw action. No injuries were reported.
Both teams have work to do on both sides of the ball. Tackling will be a priority in practice this next week as will be blocking assignments.
The kicking game will be installed this next week. There are 55 positions in the kicking game and the coaches expect tough competition between players for these positions. The Cardinals next action will be September 8th against Claremore.
Don’t forget “Meet the Cardinal” is this Thursday at Sallee Field beginning at 6:30pm.
This year coaches for the Jr.Hi are Kurt Boomer, Ben Davis, Brian Phillips, and Tommy Redding.

Downtown "Cross Country" Training
I just happend to see several members of the CHS Girls Cross Country team jogging downtown Monday. I was too slow the first time by, but was waiting with my camera when they headed back west. Looked like most of the team (including Coach Stacy) made the downtown loop. Their first meet is this Saturday (Aug. 27th) at the East Central Invitational. They will host a Collinsville meet Sept. 15th (behind Herald Elementary). -- Ted

CHS Softball -vs- McAlester Here
I rarely even take a photo of the opposing pitcher but even in the brief time I was at the CHS softball game Tuesday (less than 2 innings) it was clear that McAlester's pitcher was overwhelming the Lady Card batters. When I checked back in the 6th inning, CHS was down 0-16. The other reason for the photo was the appearance of new CHS Assistant Coach Taylor Kite by 1st base. Coach Rogers apparently questioned one too many ball -vs- strike calls and had her game shortened by the plate umpire. -- Ted
8th Grade Football Scrimmage Tuesday
At CHS Practice Field / Track
I'm used to taking football photos with a Collinsville water tower in the back ground (Rural Tank SW of town in this case) but this is the first time I've had Ridgelawn Cemetery headstones in the same view. Sallee Field was unavailable due to the band preview. The 7th graders also scrimmaged Monday night but I have no photos for them as I was covering what could be the only home volleyball matches this year? -- Ted.
The sand long jump pit at the CHS track provided the foreground for this 8th grade football scrimmage photo (-vs- Bishop Kelley) with most spectaors using the track stands.
Brandon Lowe launches a pass under the watchful eye of JrHi Football Coach Tommy Redding who provided the football report (above left).
The new water cart (left) has been busy this hot summer.
As I watched the cross country girls (see photo at the top of the page) I had to chuckle when they approached these 8th grade football boys who had been walking in the opposite direction ... and the guys broke into a sprint to not be "out done" by the girls. Several members of this same group of 8th graders later stopped by the Newspaper Museum to learn a bit of Collinsville and printing history. (Teacher Info)
Aug. 25th Volleyball Update
Ted, The varsity volleyball team beat Verdigris (ranked #3 in 4A) in four games: 25-23, 25-21, 26-24, and 25-20.
-- Thanks, Toni Slagle (8/25/2011)
I heard from the CHS softball Ladies (at Meet The Cards) Thursday that they beat Tulsa Hale here. -- Ted 8/25/2011
Was just about to upload this page when I realized this photo was skipped in the layout above and rather than redo the whole page ... will hope you scan all way down here for this 8th grade interception against Bishop Kelly Aug. 23rd. -- Ted
