Submitted Opinion On Utility Rates

Good morning,
I was reading some archived complaints of excess utility rates.
I lived in city limits with city utilities for 23 years, with the past 14 years enduring painfully high city utility bills. I lived in a small house and watched my electric usage closely to try and maintain a low usage to avoid ridiculous large monthly bills. I voiced my concerns about the high rates, even checked into who oversaw or regulated the city's actions on utilities to try and protect the older citizens in town on fixed incomes being gouged. Was told no one at the state level could look into it because the city was not overseen by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.
I moved out of city limits last year into VVEC country into a house twice the size and now my utility bills are half of what they were when in the city, go figure.
Anyone going bankrupt by city utility bills should consider moving!
Anonymous happy former city resident.

Ted Wright Note: I think moving away to reduce utility bills is extreme, but agree they are high. I consder it the price you pay to live here (or anywhere else). Technically utility charges are not taxes but that's how I consider them as they help keep the city government running. They are an important revenue source for the city. I would hope the city is spending those (and other) funds efficiently.
April 1- April 30, 2010 Paper Drive
Help The Earth (& the Library)
Collinsville Library could win $1,000 for collecting the highest percentage of papers in their Abitibi Recycling Bins during the month of April….so save your newspapers, magazines, office and school papers, mail and shopping catalogs until April 1 and them bring them to the library for recycling. Please do not bring phone books, cardboard or trash as those items do not count for our drive. We have won the $1,000 before and am sure we can do it again.

Thanks Collinsville for all you do to help our community go green.

THE 2010 GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP

YOU'RE INVITED TO HELP KEEP AMERICA BEAUTIFUL BY JOINING THE GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP

Litter, graffiti, unkempt roads, blocks, and parks are far more than just unsightly, these are symptoms of uncaring behavior, and a wake-up call for citizens and local businesses that are concerned about their quality of life.

Collinsville Downtown, Inc. is answering that call on behalf of the City of Collinsville by organizing this year's Great American Cleanup, organized by Keep America Beautiful, Inc., the nation's premier litter prevention and education organization. In partnership with state and local affiliates such as ours, the Great American Cleanup is the nation's largest annual cleanup, beautification and community improvement program. Each year, volunteers in more than 15,000 communities across the country take part in activities that meet specific needs, including recycling litter cleanups, litter prevention education, recycling drives, graffiti removal, beautification and community improvement projects, park renewals, clothes collection programs, river, lake and seashore cleanups, etc.

This year we expect more than 2.3 million volunteers nationwide to participate in this exciting Spring effort to improve the quality of life in America's communities. Here in Collinsville, Collinsville Downtown, Inc is seeking 125 volunteers for our Great American Cleanup activities, which will run from April 1 to May 31, 2010.

To increase our outreach to the community at-large, your support is crucial! There are many ways to get involved, and we look forward to discussing them with you. Call our office (371-5530) or stop by 1126 West Main for more information.
