The
Collinsville Softball Lady Cardinals are 2009 5A Regional Champs and
will be in Oklahoma City Thursday at the State Tournament. Grove evened the Regional
with a 1-2 win in the 2nd day of play delayed over the weekend. The Cardinal Ladies
shut out Grove 2-0 in the Monday final with Kylee Cole (right) pitching every
inning.
Randi
Gilmartin got a 2nd inning single in game 1.
Kylee
Cole threw out this Grove runner on a bunt attempt.in the 3rd inning of game 1
before Grove scored their only 2 runs of the day.with two outs on a single, double,
single.
I'm
using this game 1 mini-split photo as a poor substiture for a game 2 photo I wish
I'd gotten: when Randi Gilmartin did a complete (flat on the ground) split for
a critical out at first base. -- Ted
This
Kristina Shearer toss to first base ended Grove's 4th inning (game 1).
Shortstop
Lacie Cook (left) made this catch on a liner to start the 5th inning in game 1.
Centerfielder
Marysa Trost (right) made one of her trademark running catches to rob a Grove
hit in the 7th inning of game 1.
Kylee
Cole (#7) looked ready to catch this 7th inning infield popup but the blurr coming
from shortstop (Lacie Cook) made the catch.
Collinsville
loaded the bases in the 7th inning of game 1 with the following sequemce: a Gilmore
single, a Varner fielder's choice, Shearer reached on an error, Cole sacrificed
the runners to 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs, and then an Alissa Wilson walk.
Shannon
Driggers singled in Collinsville's only run in the 1st game with this swing in
the 7th with the bases loaded. Lacie Cook followed and hit a hard liner to center
which a Grove fielder tracked down to force game 2 Monday.
Collinsville
started the 2nd game (as visitors) by loading the bases in the 1st inning before
this liner off Randi Gilmartin's bat caused a double play. Lacie Cook (who had
started in the game with a walk) scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 Cardinal lead.
No
Play? -- after several throws across the infield and apparent errors and tag
outs with the umps involved ... the umps then sent all the runners back and said
it was a foul ball to start with in Grove's' half of the 3rd inning of game two.
The next play was nearly as odd with a hit ball landing in front of the plate
in fair territory and apparently hitting the bat which also landed there. Catcher
Rachel Pitts fielded the ball but did not make a throw. The umps never gave a
verbal explanation so I don't know what the call was. I just know no runs were
scored. -- Ted
Kylee
Cole pitched a shutout in the 2nd game and Collinsville added an insurance run
in the 6th on a Gilmartin single (scoring Samantha Smith).
The
Collinsville girls were thrilled to finally get the win they waited for since
last Thursday.
