11/14/2009 Brief Tulsa World Summary
Zach Pritchard (#75) tackled this Sallisaw ball carrier for a 5 yard loss back to the 17 wth a minute left in the 2nd quarter. Sallisaw had already scored their only 1st half points at 3:04 in the 2nd quarter. Sallisaw ran in a 2 point conversion to close to 14-8. The Sallisaw drive keyed on a long pass play (from their 27 to the Card 31) with the ball coming loose when the receiver hit the turf but still ruled a completion. The score came on an 18 yard pass.
Following the Pritchard loss (left) Jamaro Oakley (#31) intercepted this Sallisaw pass on the next play at the 43 yard line and 28 seconds remaining before half time.
Collinsville nearly added 3 points just before half time with this James Norris field goal attempt (from the 18 yard line) and only 1 second on the clock. The kick was just wide and nearly not possible as Collinsville had made a first down stopping the clock temporarily with only 2 second and no timeouts left. Collinsville spiked the ball but the clock ran to zero. The official conferred and placed a second back on the clock. The halftime score was 14-8. Neither band marched at half.
Sallisaw started the 2nd half with a drive from their own 23 down to Collinsville's 2 yard line. On the next play Zach Pritchard (#75) knocked them back to the 6 yard line. Sallisaw settled for a field goal at 4:52 in the 3rd quarter putting the score at 14-11.
Merin Oakley (#30) returned this Sallisaw kickoff to the 30 yard line to start Collinsville's initial 2nd half possession. Jamaro Oakley and John Pinney also returned kickoffs.
Collinsville answered Sallisaw's opening 2nd half touchdown with this 6 yard TD pass to Jamaro Oakley (#31) from Tyler Ames out of a fake field goal formation. The touchdown came with 2:40 left in the 3rd quarter and Norris' kick made the score 21-11.
John Pinney (#85) reached the 49 yard line with a Douglas pass (from the 25) with about 4 minutes left in the game and the score tied 21-21.
Sallisaw scored on this play (a 1 yard dive) to cut the score to 21-18 at 10:32 in the 4th quarter. The drive started at their 28 late in the 3rd quarter. Collinsville's next possession moved backwards with a holding penalty before punting back to Sallisaw at their 40. A 38 yard Sallisaw pass reached Collinsville's 6 yard line but they had to settle for a field goal at 6:19 to tie the score at 21-21.
Joe Keith (#28) broke the tie with a 50 yard TD pass from Shane Douglas with 3:51 left in the game. James Norris kicked the extra point for a 28-21 Collinsville lead.
Sallisaw ran the kickoff back to the Collinsville 40 with 3:45 left in the game. Three passes got Sallisaw down to the 5 and a QB keeper TD (& kick) tied the score again at 28-28 with 2:34 left in the game.
Collinsville started at their own 20 yard line after Sallisaw's kickoff. A Cardinal gain out to the 29 was erased by a sack back to the 18 followed by a motion penalty back to the 13. Sallisaw intercepted a pass and had the ball at the Collinsville 10 yard line with 59 seconds left. The photo shows Sallisaw's field goal (from the 8) with 9 seconds left which put Salllisaw in the lead for the first time in the game at 28-31.
CHS held a pep rally for the Cardinals Thursday 11/12/2009 with the class presidents breaking balloons with pointed "Cardinal noses" as part of the entertainment (below).
