Curbs Were Poured And Shaped Monday
New sidewalk maybe? -- Crews poured and formed new sidewalks in front of several buildings on Main Street today. The effort was delayed by heavy rain about 4:30pm but even before that, concerns had been raised on the water content of the material delivered. I have no official word yet on the outcome of that concern. -- Ted 5pm Wed. April 23, 2008
A portion of the previous (April 17th) sidewalk pour has already been torn out (in front of the City Annex building) as it did not meet specification and will have to be redone.
This view of Wednesday's sidewalk acticity was taken from the roof of the Newspaper Museum in the middle of the block looking towards City Hall.
My view out the front door of the Newspaper Museum In Collinsville (at 1110 W. Main) has changed almost daily since the first sidewalk cuts began March 4th. The 4 photos above cover less than a day starting with the Tensar material added (after about a week's delay after the existing base material did not pass compaction tests). The Tensar was then covered with ag base (gravel). The 2nd shot shows the concrete flowing out of the delivery truck. The 3rd photo shows a worker under the plastic material used to cover the newly poured sidewalk during heavy rains. The 4th view shows the nearly completed sidewalk surface getting a final non-skid texture from a broom at about 6:15pm.
Work continued for hours during (under plastic) and after the rain began to remove the excess water on the surface and complete the delayed surface preparation.
Photos On North Side of Main Between 11th & 12th.
About a half block of sidewalk was formed in the April 23 pour above. Work also continues in the 3 other areas of the 2 block project. Major portions of the old sidewalk have been removed on the north side of Main between 10th & 11th with utility work. Sidewalk cuts have been made on the south side of Main between 10th & 11th. Bases for lightpoles had previously been drilled and poured in all 4 areas. (Also see project status reported at City Commission meet April 21st, 2008)
