The City of Collinsville has planned a special meeting to be held October
10, 2007, for the Commission to consider a resolution to hold an election
to establish a hotel motel tax for the purpose of enhancing economic
development and further improving the quality and lifestyle of the citizens
of Collinsville.
In addition, the City will consider calling another election for the
citizens to consider granting a franchise to Oklahoma Natural Gas Company.
Although this issue overwhelmingly passed in the September 11, 2007
election, there was some question about the adequacy of the legal notice
of the election. To protect the taxpayers and assure that the franchise
and long-term relationship with ONG is never questioned by an election
contest, the city attorney has recommended that the question be presented
to the citizens of Collinsville a second time.
The City is reviewing election procedures to assure that all future
elections have proper legal notice and is working with ONG to ensure
that the new election proceeds promptly and efficiently.
