Collinsville
Trailed 0-15 at Half
& 14-15 With Under 3 Minutes Left
Collinsville
quarterback Tyler Chronister avoided these two Mannford tacklers and another
at the goalline to convert a 3rd and 14 fourth quarter play into the winning
touchdown with 2:40 left in the game.
Kaleb
Hamilton (#70) rushed the Mannford QB on this 2nd half pass attempt. Hamilton
forced a fumble setting up the Cardinals winning drive and recovered a fumble
with Mannford 4 yards from taking the lead back with 2:08 left in the game (below).
Mannford
almost scored on the next two plays after Collinsville took the lead. Tyler
Chronister made a saving tackle on the kickoff return which Mannford took all
the way to the Card's 27 with a penalty. On the next play (above) the Mannford
ball carrier got inside the 10 yard line but fumbled to the Card's 4 yard line.
Collinsville
didn't pick up a first down after recovering at their 4 yard line but managed
the clock and traded a 2-point saftey for a free kick at the 20 instead of a
dangerous endzone punt. That gave Mannford only two last ditch attempts with
a sack giving Collinsville a 21-17 season opening win.
The
game started with high expectations but the Cardinals couldn't get on track
in the first half and gave up a 15 point deficit to Mannford. The Cards stepped
it up a notch in the second half and outscored Mannford 21-2 in the 2nd half.
I'll
give my "Team Support" award this week to the CHS softball team for
their clever outfits and willingness to stand together the entire first half.
And with apologies to both the softball and volleyball teams will try to get
the few photos I have from Thursday's many
activities online later today (Saturday 9/2). -- Ted
