These three photos show a grass fire burning Saturday night just east of Holman Seed Farm (north of East 141st St. N. and west of South 2nd St.) before 10:30pm. As additional fire fighting units were responding to this fire, reports were received of additional small fires in other locations near Collinsville. I'll add additional information as it becomes available.

Having heard a mobile home park might have to be evacuated Sunday ~1:45pm (Jan. 15) near a grass fire on 106th St. North (between Memorial & Sheridan), I went for possible online news photos. Smoke was visible from Collinsville, but I could only get as close as 116th St. and Memorial (photo above) as Owasso Police were not allowing traffic south or west of that intersection. Even miles from the smoke I saw worried folks moving firewood stacks away from their homes. On my way back to Collinsville I followed smoke to another grass fire north of town (photos right & below). -- Ted
This grass fire Sunday afternoon (before 2:30pm) north of 156th St. North just west of the railroad tracks was controlled by Collinsville fire fighters.
The city grass rig above appears to be the new unit donated in July 2005 and now fully outfitted and well used during this drought & unseasonably warm windy weather.
When the Collinsville fire crews finished the local fire some were headed back to assist Owasso and others to 186th St. N. near Highway 75 (~3:30pm Jan. 15, 2006).

Monday Jan. 16, 2006 Update: The Collinsville Rural Fire Department has made 35 runs since Jan 1st and 10 of those were made yesterday Jan 15th. A few of the calls were medical but the vast majority have been grass fires. Rural had 17 firefighters working Sunday. Collinsville City Fire has made 23 runs since Jan. 1, 2006 with the majority of those being grass fires. Collinsville Police reported they had made no arrests yet in these most recent fires. I did not cover the grass fire near Stonegate Addition Sunday afternoon but saw from the Channel 8 TV aerial footage that it came within about 50 yards of homes there. Remember the burn ban is still in effect. -- Ted (Statewide info 1/15)
