Cardinals Burned Twice More But Hold Off Final Attack
The Collinsville cheerleaders had plenty of support from the stands as the crowd cheered on the Cardinals in this see-saw battle with Catoosa.
On their 2nd play after Collinsville went up 23-7 Catoosa burned Collinsville with this 62 yard pass and touchdown to cut it to 23-14 at 6:31 in the 3rd quarter.
Before the end of the 3rd quarter Collinsville drove from their own 35 down to Catoosa's 10 yard line. Nick Rabbit had a 45 yard run in that drive. On 4th and 1 from the 10 Collinsville tried a field goal on the first play of the 4th quarter but the Aaron Watts attempt was short. Catoosa threw an 80 yard TD pass on their next possession and the score was 23-21 with 10:21 left in the game.
When the game ended Coach Bob Craig congratulated his boys for not getting down when things went wrong. He also reminded the team they have a two game win streak at home going back to last season's win over Webster. The Cardinals are on the road the next two weeks at Berryhill and Miami.
The Cardinal Quarterback Club's autographed quilt is finished now and tickets will be available until the drawing at the last home game.
In the final 10 minutes of the game Collinsville gained 2 first downs before punting to Catoosa. Catoosa started at their own 20 yard line and 4:57 on the clock. Catoosa moved the ball to the Card's 41 before 4 straight incomplete passes turned the ball back to Collinsville with 2 minutes left. Collinsville ran out the clock after picking up 1 more 1st down.
Community Cablevision is scheduled to broadcast a game playback 5:30pm Wednesday Sept. 14th.
Other Key Plays: Adam Thomas' interception at 12 yard line in 1st quarter and several booming punts. Several big hits by Card defenders knocking passes loose from receivers.
