I actually got to see a possum "play possum" this week when my dog (Georgia) flushed a possum out of the bushes in the alley behind the Newspaper Museum on Tuesday (Aug. 31st). The dog pinned the possum at the wall but never attacked before the possum started it's act. I had time to walk into the building and get my camera. The next time I checked a few minutes latter, the possum was long gone. -- Ted
Hurricane Frances
Emily Wright, a University of Miami sophomore from Collinsville, will be "riding out" her first Hurricane. Emily indicated Thursday afternoon that with Hurricane Frances heading into Florida Friday evening or Saturday morning, she and the other residents of her dorm would be in "lockdown" starting at 2pm Friday (Sept 3rd). The dorms are supposed to be designed for hurricane force winds. Emily indicated that the campus apartment dwellers were being evacuated into the dorms Thursday evening. (Dad is trying not worry too much.) -- Ted [Sat 9/5 7pm update: Emily says she is fine. The Miami area is getting by easy so far as the eye is passing well north of them.]
