Boost Local Cherokee Community &
Compete For Project Funds

A portion of the group of local residents that met Tuesday Nov. 9th to form the new "Victory Cherokee Organization" are shown above.
Charles Tripp was elected as the group's first president.
Cherokee officials from Tahlequah addressed the new Collinsville area organization at the beginning of the meeting Nov. 9th at American Bank. District 8 Cherokee Nation Councilman Buel Anglen also addressed the group.

Building on the success of the Victory Cemetery restoration project a group of local residents (Cherokee & non-Cherokee) met to formalize a new Collinsville based organization to continue to boost the Cherokee community in this area. It is hoped that the organization will supplement the ability of several existing community groups to compete for grant money for this area. Tulsa formed a similar group about 8 years ago according to Cherokee Nation Councilman Buel Anglen. Bartlesville had formed a group the night before the Collinsville group met.

The new group will be called the "Victory Cherokee Organization" and is hoped to cover more than Collinsville proper with neighboring communities such as Skiatook, Owasso, and Oologah involvement welcome. One of the early priorities for the group is defining community projects and applying for Cherokee and other grant funds.

Officers elected at the kickoff meeting were President Charles Tripp, Vice President Tom Burr, Secretary Lanora McMullen, Treasurer Karen Borg-Miller and Board Member Dana Howard. The group will apply for 501 non-profit status. The group plans meetings 6pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month (initially at American Bank).
