The regular monthly School Board Meeting for Collinsville Public Schools, Independent District I-6, met 7pm Monday July 12, 2004 with the following partial agenda topics (+ others not listed here). Board member Joe Hampton was absent. Jon Werthen's former post 5 seat is vacant.
Decisions on the following
hiring/reassignments were approved:
* Head Band Director: Jason
Dulin (reassigned from Assistant Director)
[Stefanie Cottrell's resignation
as Head Band Director was approved June 7th]
* Assistant Band Director: Heath Miller (recent TU grad)
hired
* Assistant Middle School Principal: John Coleman (reassigned
from H.S.)
* High School English Teacher: Kelly Hutchison hired
(previously w/Owasso)
* Technology Director: Larry Meece (in addition to his
reading program duties)
* 1 Herald Elementary teacher (following Nancy Fair resignation): Julie
Beeson hired
Other topics:
* Rental of Church for temporary Middle School cafeteria use: Board
approved $85/day payment to the First Baptist Church for facilities use which
will also cover cleanup. The kitchen there will not be used, as food will
be shipped in from other school cafeterias.
* Revisions to student handbook: No major changes ...
just clarifications, as previewed at the previous board meet.
* Softball Lighting: The board approved up to $5K for
20 new energy efficient lighting fixtures ($215 apiece) which will replace
40 existing lights. V.V.E.C. has offered to help with installation. The new
fixtures are similar to those installed at the football field in 2002.
Recently
approved bond money will be for this expenditure.
* Lighting
improvements for the baseball field were also
discussed but the final bids are not in so the issue was deferred to later
board meeting. This process will likely involve crane rental and an unknown
amount of rewiring. Eight light fixtures will likely be added to the existing
lights and poles.
* The Certified Working Agreement for FY2005 (teachers) was
approved by the board. The teachers are set to receive
a 2.5% raise which increases the district's salary total by $93K to $95K for
the year. Several other topics were addressed including similar coverage for
personal days like support personnel received recently, as well as more paid
summer days for counselors, and an increase in pay ranges for coaches and
extra duty sponsors.
* An auction for
surplus items was approved
for the tentative date of Saturday August 9th.
Likely at 10am at the High School.
* Craig Creech's Assistant
Superintendant's Report was deferred to the August 9th
board meet as the board has already approved and is aware of all the topics
he is currently working. Board member Ted Clark
did want to request that before the new Middle School building is started
that extra dirt & material be added to ensure this new building does not
have the drainage problems that continue at school buildings built in low
spots in the past.
* Pat Herald's
Superintendant's Report indicated the board will likely
be asked at the August 9th meeting to approve a full-time support person to
clean and maintain all of the sports facilities, dressing rooms, restrooms,
including mowing etc. This is hoped to provide better coverage than the current
part-time use of several people at selected facilities.
New Business:
* A new contract for transporting Collinsville
students to the Tulsa Technology Center has been received with a rate of $1.90/mile.
(Total not to exceed $133,000).
* Previously discussed legal issues (conflicting state & school
laws) have
been resolved and an agreement for the $112K to $115K money from Vision 2025
sales tax will be on the August 9th agenda. The money is to be used for text
books and the final amount might increase as it is based on average daily
attendance.
* Mr. Rule reminded the board that two CHS coaches will be coaching All-State
events this month. Art Smalyago will be coaching volleyball (July 27th?) and
Mike Henry will be coaching wrestling (July ??). Both events will be in Oklahoma
City. Mr. Rule also mentioned that former Collinsville coach Paul Davis will
be inducted into the Coaches Hall of Fame July 24th in OKC.
