The regular monthly School Board Meeting for Collinsville Public Schools, Independent District I-6, met 7pm Monday August 9, 2004 with the following partial agenda topics (+ others not listed here). Board President Wendell Johnson was absent. Jon Werthen's former post 5 seat is vacant until Memory Ostrander is sworn in at the September board meeting. Memory turned in the only application to fill out the remaining term. Most of the meeting was held by the daylight coming through the door/window of the meeting room as electricity was lost about 15 minutes into the meeting.

The Collinsville School District was accreditated for FY2005 by the State Department of Education. The only minor non-compliances in the accreditation report were fire drills that were held on the 11th and 12th day after school started last year instead of within the first 10 days per guidelines. Principals at each campus will be reminded this year to stay within the first 10 days for the first fire drills.

The school board raised the price of an extra milk drink to 35c (from 25c) but left the price of the first milk and other meal prices the same as last year. This was to help offset increases in milk prices. The board also signed the contract with Tulsa County to start receiving Vision 2025 funds for textbooks (~$112K). A $6158 bid from Taylor Paper was accepted for copier paper. A $20,699 bid from State Farm was accepted for the school's transportation insurance for the year. This was an increase from last year with additional vehicles and some rate increases.

Most of the remaining meeting was spent hiring the last few open positions and finalizing salaries for this school year. Herald School Nurse Deana Spencer and Donna Russell of the ECS staff both had turned in resignations. The remaining nurses wil receive extra pay to cover extra duties and Stacie Byrom will replace Donna at ECS. Lela Scheckel (Psychometrist) has become full-time after having been part-time. Erica Cones and Regina Johnson were hired as special education teacher's aides. Justin Shults was hired as a seasonal/occasional for middle custodian work. Angela Stellfox was hired for part-time work at the H.S. snack bar. Former Collinsville News Editor Mike McCarty was hired to the new full-time custodian position for all the athletic facilities at all campuses and will report to Athletic Director Bill Rule.

Support personnel were approved for an across the board 3.5% salary increase. Certified teachers had previously been approved for 3.5 to 4%. School Administrative salaries were reviewed and adjusted to bring them more in line with similar positions with similar roles in neighboring school districts. Some were adjusted by 3.5% but some in news roles this year received larger increases.

Assistant Superintendant Creech reported he had signed over a utility easement on the north side of the SportsPlex to a new housing addition. The easement was already a county easement.

Superintendant Pat Herald indicated an increase of 80 to 100 news students would be manageable. Beyond that he would be concerned.
