First and foremost I’m a very proud mother. The joke was on me because he was a preppy jock while his father and I were hippies. Parents disowned me a couple of times but they loved spending time with their grandson. My son does everything he can to spoil me now. He owns 2 restaurants in Gaslamp area of San Diego. (Merritte’s places in San Diego. Confidential @ http://confidentialsd.com/ & La Puerta @ http://www.taco619.com/ I try and go out there at least twice a year. He is a workaholic, so no grandchildren yet. He said he is waiting till his 40’s to start a family when he won’t have to work so hard. I do have an English bulldog, Boomer as a grand puppy. I just got a rescue dog from C’ville and since we are a house divided his name is Pistol Pete or Petey for short.

I’m still a hippy at heart with a bit of rebel. I prefer the simple things in life. I was married twice but divorced 3 times. I had to divorce my son’s father twice. Young and naive I believed him when he said he had changed. I finally decided marriage was not for me.

I have a very strong belief in giving back. It has been what I would say has brought about the biggest changes in my life. I started volunteering in the 80’s with DVIS (Domestic Violence). Then in the early 90’s my focus changed and I had to do more public speaking, but it was strange because when I stepped up on my soap box, nothing else mattered. I have been a presenter at state and national conferences and one international conference in NY a month after 9/11.

I was laid off from Met Life after 27 years.( It was the only thing I did that my parents approved of, get a good job and keep it.) I was going to just travel and enjoy life for 6 months and then look for a new job. While trying to figure out just what that might be, I was asked to be one of the guest speakers at OSU for MLK day in Jan. 01. After speaking at OSU, I received an appointment to the Oklahoma Advisory Board to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. After that I decided to go back to school and got a degree as a Para-legal. Then I started at OU/Tulsa in Human Relations. I was active in the political party of my choice an officer and state delegate but had to stop that when I became the treasurer for Tulsa LWV. I was on the Justice committee at TMM. I met myself coming and going between school and attending meetings all over the state. Have to say those years were some of the happiest of my life, the early 50’s could not have been better.

About 4 years ago my health took a turn for the worse and I had to step down from everything except the IRB board at TU and the state President for a non-profit. That one only because I couldn’t get anyone to step up to replace me, they felt I needed it to recover. Among other things I have Lupus and it was attacking my nervous system. But I have been doing a lot better health wise now, but I do still have problems with names so you may have to tell more than once who you are.
