Re: Collinsville High School Reunion

Greetings, Classmates ,
I’d rather be writing Greetings Friends, but after 40 years, I really don’t know most of you and I have not even seen many of you in 30 to 40 years. This is because within a week or so after graduating CHS, I left Collinsville for a job opportunity, then college at OSU(5 years), a short stint in my ultimate carreer field in West Texas, five years in the Air Force, mostly at Strategic Air Command headquarters at Omaha, then back to rejoin my previously selected career field in West Texas. I’ve never moved back to Collinsville, and have spent very little time there due to job requirements. Hence, I don’t know most of you. So for today, I’ll have to live with greeting you as Classmates, but that’s OK, because in my opinion we had the best of the classes. And I hope I can make it to the reunion, and maybe even restore some lost friendships.
I married a local girl(Owasso) in 1974, right before I got called to active duty in the Air Force(married officers in the military get paid more than single ones). After fulfilling my commitment, I resigned from the AF, and back to West Texas where my first child was born in 1980. A year later it was Norway for six months, then Arkansas for 4 years, then East Texas where my second son was born in 1984.
After three years in East Texas, I was transferred to Houston, a place where I had previously vowed to the company that I would never live. Three years later I transferred from Houston to Lafayette, Louisiana, for 11 years. Toward the end of that time, my wife and I divorced, and the Company sold off its Gulf of Mexico operations.
I transferred to Bartllesville in 1999, a place where I had also told the Company I would never work. But at least it got me back to this part of the Country. I hated the work in Bartlesville, and the Company wanted me to move to Beijing. At first I said I would move($$$$$$), but I made a trip to Beijing and South China, and I decided I wasn’t going to move there. I couldn’t work things out with the Company, so I retired after a couple of years in B’ville.
Since then I’ve had a lot of time for contemplation, calculation, and planning. For instance, I was unmarried for the first 23 years of my life, married the next 23 years of my life, and am currently unmarried again. If my figures are right, as of now, I still have 11 years to remain umarried before being forced to marry again in order to maintain previously established precedence.
Beat Jenks,
Mike

Just to avoid any further confusion ...
I am a competitor to the current day "Collinsville News" . After 88 years in my family my Dad sold the newspaper in 1987.
