It would take a video to accurately show the "rough" play under the offensive basket as Deer's Creek's obvious plan to disrupt Mallory Vaughn's ability to operate there was "allowed" by the referees. I'm no official and a certain level of contact is expected but it seemed extreme to me and apparently to several Collinsville players as they received retaliation foul calls after Deer Creek foul non-calls. Mallory Vaughn had picked up her 3rd foul before the mid-point of the 3rd quarter. I didn't note the times on other fouls but Mallory and Sawyer both had 4 fouls by the 4:10 mark in the 4th quarter. Collinsville was forced to foul trailing in the closing minutes but Deer Creek made most of their free throws and extended their lead to the eventual 11 point separation. Collinsville had gotten close at 31-38 with 1:37 left (& 34-41 inside a minute). -- Ted Wright
I never expected when I the took a photo of Sawyer Salisbury's pre free throw toss (above) that it would be turned into a key "play" in the game due an incredibly poor official's decision that it was a "free throw attempt" instead of a part of her usual free throw ritual that has caused no confusion for any other official or opponent as far as I know. Other than a 19-19 tie at the 4:50 mark of the 3rd quarter Collinsville had trailed the entire game (except the first bucket of the game by Salisbury). Salisbury had gone to the line with Collinsville down by 8 points (22-30) about a minute into the 4th quarter. The referee took away the first free throw attempt opportunity and clearly was in Sawyer's head on the "second" attempt which was a miss. -- Ted Wright
