Hundreds
of elementary and middle school students lined Collinsville's Main Street for
the Veterans Day Parade. The High School Band marched with the Veterans in the
parade.
A
small group of Collinsville's Veterans marched from 14th Street to the Veterans
Building at 9th and Main. There were speeches and music and the Veterans were
served a free lunch. Mayor Sirmon, a veteran himself, addressed the honored
group. Julie Dermody organized the activities and has kicked off an effort to
raise funds to refurbish the old "VFW Building" constructed in 1946
by the citizens of Collinsville.
The
1958 list below was incomplete at the time ... and obviously several wars out-dated
now ... but reflects Collinsville's past and continuing sacrafice.
Note:
Mr. Drewell's 1958 phone number (above) was "5" back when an operator
connected each call in Collinsville. The Collinsville automated dial system
started about a year later in 1959. Our home phone was "169" and you
asked for "73" to reach "The Collinsville News" before
May 1959. -- Ted Wright -- Nov. 11, 2003
