What is the purpose of a historical society?
A historical society is an organization dedicated to preserving, collecting, researching, and interpreting historical information or items. Originally, these societies were created as a way to help future generations understand their heritage.
The Collinsville Historical Society was started in 1975 to save the old Santa Fe Depot but has been inactive for decades. There is an effort (again) to restart the organization. A meeting will be held Tuesday March 12, 2024, (6pm) at the Veterans Building on Main Street. Anyone with an interest in preserving Collinsville's History is invited to attend. There are still a few "lifetime" members remaining in the community and they are especially invited to give us insight in moving forward. Young and old, longtime residents and newbies, are also invited to become new members and get the ball rolling again. No money will be collected until the tax free status with the State of Oklahoma can be restored. In the meantime, you can signup to be a future member and offer your suggestions. There will be a booth set up on Main Street after the April 6th Founders Day (125th) Parade where you can sign up also, if unable to attend the March 12 meeting. You can email Ted Wright (wrightted@aol.com) or Linda (Henshall) Wilson (wilsonla@nsuok.edu ) with questions or suggestions.

-- If anone out there has a copy of the old by-laws or membership list that would be a big help.
