HS/Chamber Signs Down
Highway 20 Expansion Right-Of-Way Clearing
at High School
The high school electronic message board (that has been non functional for a few years) has been taken down along with its brick base to make room for the soon-to-be? widened Highway 20. ODOT has purchased addditional right-of-way on the north side of the existing Highway 20 lanes (all the way to Highway 75) including a portion of the Collinsville High School "front yard". The top photo faces the existing "freshman" center and the new STEM classrooms under construction ... while the bottom view faced Ridgelasn cemetery several years ago.
The Collinsville Chamber of Commerce "Welcome" sign near the east high school entrance has also been removed from the new Highway 20 right-of-way. The views (above and below) show the new FFA and Band buildings still under construction in the background. There are hopes that both (or a new combined) signs will be restored after the new highway lanes are completed in the future ... possibly a joint venture with the school and chamber.
The Chamber welcome sign had been in place for twenty years on the high school grounds.
