Women's Cross Country Places 22nd at Southern Stampede
JOPLIN, Mo.
The Rogers State women's cross country team placed 22nd
in a strong field of 33 teams at the Southern Stampede, hosted
by Missouri Southern, on Saturday morning.
The Hillcats
were at their best on Saturday morning with six of the top seven
Cats all setting personal-best times.
Senior Hailey
Gillispie paced the navy and red for the second straight time
this season. The Henryetta, Okla. native ran a time of 19:09.30
in the 5-kilometer event for 95th overall.
Fellow senior
J'Cee Holmes turned in the second best time for the navy and red
with a personal-best time of 19:23.35.
Two freshman
took the third and fourth place spots for the Hillcats in the
team scoring. Hannah Taylor went under 20 minutes with a personal-best
time of 19:39.74. Tayler Lee also ran a personal-best time in
20:34.33.
In
the fifth scoring spot for the Cats was Ellen Thomas as she covered
the course in a time of 20:44.56.
Malinda Moore
turned in her best career time in 21:18.64 to earn the sixth spot
for RSU. Also with a personal best was Brianna Valles in the seventh
spot in 21:51.81.
Kelsey Bruce
of Dallas Baptist University won the individual title in the 5k
race as she ran a time of 16:50.43. In second was Jessica Allen
of Missouri State in 17:06.70.
Tulsa took
the team title and Dallas Baptist University finished second overall
and as the top NCAA Division II program. Oklahoma Baptist was
third overall.
The Hillcats
go to Kentucky for the first time in program history in two weeks
in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic on Sept. 30 in
Louisville, Ky.
