RSU Women's Cross Country Takes Sixth at UCO Land Run

EDMOND, Okla. – The Rogers State women's cross country team started the 2017 season with a sixth-place finish at the UCO Land Run on Saturday (Sept. 2) morning at Santa Fe High School.

RSU totaled a score of 183 to finish just one point behind host Central Oklahoma (182).

The Hillcats were led by senior Hailey Gillispie as she covered the 5-kilometer course in 19:35.40 for 17th place overall. Another senior in J'Cee Holmes ranked 28th overall and second for the Cats in a time of 20:01.91.

Two freshmen placed in third and fourth for the Cats in the team scoring. In her first collegiate race, freshman Hannah Taylor finished in third for the navy and red and 37th overall. She ran a time of 20:22.12 in the 5k race. Fellow freshmen Tayler Lee finished in 21:16.39 for the fourth spot for RSU.

Finishing three seconds after Lee was Malinda Moore in a time of 21:19.83 for the final scoring spot in the team score. Ellen Thomas ran a time of 21:33.13 for sixth place for the Hillcats, and Beth Terhune earned the seventh spot for the team finishing in 22:26.15.

Oklahoma Baptist placed five runners in the top 10 to take the team championship. Oklahoma City finished in second, and East Central was third. Aminat Olowora of OCU won the individual championship in a time of 17:19.49 to win by 51 seconds.

The Hillcats return to the course in two weeks at the Southern Stampede, hosted by Missouri Southern in Joplin, Missouri on Sept. 16.
