Queen Sawyer Salisbury Crowned By Kanyen Cole
Generations of former Collinsville High School Girls Basketball players gathered for a special homecoming here Friday Feb. 14, 2014. The invite went out for players back to the first team in ~1911 and those that arrived spanned the graduation years from 1949 to 2013.
Long-time Collinsville girls coach Howard Ray recived a life time achievement award (& state ring) from his former players during the homecoming ceremonies Friday Feb. 14, 2014.
2014 CHS Basketball Royalty -- (L-R): Sophomores (Mallory Vaughn [FR] & Bailey Stamper), Freshman (Brittany Kickapoo & Blake Burd), Crown Bearer (Aiden Anderson), Queen Sawyer Salisbury, King Kanyen Cole, Flower Girl (Haley Long), Juniors (Caroline Sallee & Austin Archer), and Seniors (Rachel Griffin & Jade Brewer).
Coach Ray "Blackie" Henshall (who assisted Howard Ray with girls basketball for many years) was also recognized by the former players with a life time achievement award. They also acknowleged his service in the Navy (World War II), as Collinsville Mayor, and over 40 years as a basketball referee for Oklahoma high schools and colleges. Henshall is a member of the Referees Hall of Fame.
Each "decade" of former players stepped forward to be recognized as emcee Rick Brinkley announced them. The last group (above) was also singled out for their 1984 State Championship. Three members of that 1984 team have daughters on the current (2014) CHS team (Chester-Salisbury-Sallee).
Sorry, I don't have names for everyone, nor room online for all of the photos taken Friday. -- Ted
There was even time for a few basketball games Friday between festivities. I missed the JV girls game but hear they won. The JV boys won 36-35 with a 2 minute overtime. The varsity boys lost 39-57. The varsity girls won 37-26 over Bishop Kelley.
The home stands were full (including a row of chairs for some of the alumni ladies) as the 2014 Lady Cards took care of Bishop Kelley.
2014 Lady Card Starters (L-R in white): Madie Vaughn (33), Mallory Vaughn (42), Sawyer Salisbury (11), Taylor O'Dell (12), and Dakota Jefferson (21).
This photo has a double group of 3 generation CHS Basketball Lady Cardettes. There might be others? L-R (Karen White, Kendra Keith Salisbury, & Sawyer Salisbury) and (Brittany Kickapoo, Roberta Thomason Kickapoo, and Gloria Stanley Thomason).
This 3 generation CHS basketball photo includes the boys teams also. Ray Henshall played CHS basketball as did his daughters Carol & Linda & grandson Scott.

The CHS varsity boys (who normally play last) played their game before the girls to give the girls time to switch from dresses to uniforms before the second game.

While Queen Sawyer Salisbury (#11) was on the court her parents could relax after their homecoming preparation in the background.
Wynell (Kemper) Eastin (a CHS 1949 grad) was the lone representative from the 1940s for the alumni basketball players at the 2014 homecoming.
Many years of basketball experience benefit Collinsville with Ray Henshall, Mark Campbell (current girls coach), and Howard Ray.
State Senator Rick Brinkley was emcee for the homecoming activities and posed with his mother (Carolyn Brinkley - CHS 1955) wearing her CHS basketball letter jacket.
