Alberta Bonebrake, admiring her Santa gift.
The Collinsville Home Representative Club gathered Dec.2, 2014 at the Community Church for their meeting and annual Christmas party. Members enjoyed a Mexican-themed pot luck dinner; exchanged Santa gifts; and raised over $300 to support the Heifer International Foundation - choosing a clean water system installation, a hive of honeybees, and a flock of chickens with their donation, which will be distributed to two families, plus a village, somewhere in the world. -- Linda Pfeffer (12/5/2014)
VFW Flags Downtown Sunday For Pearl Harbor Day -- December 7, 2014
Oklahoma Historical Society:
Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day (December 7th) -- Today in 1941, Japan’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii struck a critical blow against the U.S. Pacific fleet and drew the United States into World War II. At the time, the USS Oklahoma (BB 37) was one of the U.S. Navy's oldest battleships, and it received the brunt of the initial Japanese attacks. Struck by multiple torpedoes, the ship capsized. Many men were trapped inside or killed by flying debris. In all, the USS Oklahoma lost 20 officers and 395 enlisted men. Except for the USS Arizona, the USS Oklahoma lost the most casualties of all ships in the harbor that day.
