Team Total 364

This was our first tournament this year and I was pleased with our scores on a tough course. The team score was 20 strokes better than last year and it was our 2nd tournament.

The players realize that they can improve their scores. Our next tournaments are Mon. Mar. 25 at Tulsa Country and Tues. Mar. 26 at Emerald Falls. These two courses are just as hard as Forest Ridge, so we will have our work cut out for us. I feel we will improve our scores, though.

National Tornado Summit Donates Marriott Rewards Points to American Red Cross
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 13, 2013

OKLAHOMA CITY - The National Tornado Summit is pleased to announce the donation of its Marriott Rewards points to the American Red Cross. The points were accumulated by scheduling the 2012 and 2013 conventions at the Renaissance Oklahoma City Convention Center Hotel and Spa.

"This donation just makes sense," said National Tornado Summit Committee co-chairman John Wiscaver. "After a disaster, many families have nowhere to go. This gift helps them make that first step toward recovery by fulfilling one of their most immediate and basic needs, shelter."

The donation of 100,000 points will allow the American Red Cross to provide disaster victims up to 13 room nights at Marriott Corp. properties. The charity also has the option of converting the points to 15,000 airline miles.

"Donations like this are the foundation of how the Red Cross works," said Regional Chief Executive Officer Janienne Bella. "If not for these types of donations from Marriott and the National Tornado Summit, we could not respond to the many disasters we see around the state."

“The Oklahoma City Renaissance Hotel is proud to know that the Marriott Rewarding Events Points we are awarding to the National Tornado Summit for simply holding events at our hotel will be used by the American Red Cross to help disaster victims in a time of crisis,” Renaissance Hotel general manager Joe LoMonaco said.

The 2014 National Tornado Summit will also be held at the Renaissance Oklahoma City Convention Center Hotel and Spa. It is scheduled for Feb. 9-11.

Annual Middle School Math Contest
We recently had two Middle School students compete in a state wide math contest, Melissa Scott and Lyndee Branen. The competition was at the Oklahoma School of Science and Math in OKC. Lyndee Branen placed third in her division. I've attached a picture of her receiving her certificate and medal.

Lyndee Branen, eighth grader at Collinsville Middle School, received a medal and certificate from the 11th annual Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Middle School Math: An Awesome Contest in Oklahoma City. She earned Third Place Eighth Grade Female in Division III.
OKLAHOMA CITY – March 6, 2013 – Middle school students from 30 counties throughout Oklahoma were recognized for their math skills and achievements during the 11th annual Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Middle School Math: an Awesome Contest held recently on the school’s Oklahoma City campus.

Two hundred students from 56 schools, grades 6th - 8th, participated in the final round of the competition. Several students received individual trophies and medals awarded in four divisions. All students received certificates of achievement. The current and previous tests are available on the school’s website www.ossm.edu.

“The sixth graders scored significantly higher than in years past,” said Dr. Ken Lease, vice president of academic services. “Their preparation indicated a very strong support system for their mathematics mastery. The seventh and eighth graders responded with excellence and significant understanding of pre-algebra and Algebra I concepts.”

After the middle school math test, more than 550 students, parents, family members and teachers toured two academic buildings on the 32-acre campus.

“This annual event allows OSSM to generate interest and excitement among parents and middle school students, while rewarding excellence in mathematics. Many families were introduced to our residential high school and students for the first time,” said Dr. Lease. “Additionally, many of our current and former students participated in past OSSM middle school math contests. Some applied and then were accepted as students to OSSM. We look forward to sponsoring the statewide event every year.”

OSSM is Oklahoma’s public, residential school for junior and senior high school students with exceptional abilities in science and math. While at OSSM, students participate in a rigorous academic program. In addition to advanced level courses in the sciences and mathematics, curriculum includes exemplary programs in computer science, humanities, the arts and physical education.

OSSM was created through legislative action in 1983 and serves all Oklahoma schools and students through research, teacher training and outreach activities. For more information, visit the school’s website www.ossm.edu.
